Pharmaceutical botany investigates plant or plant parts which are used directly as drugs or drug raw material. It conducts this investigation according to categories dictated by systematical botany, to ensure disciplinary integrity. Pharmaceutical botany, however, is not a taxonomic science. It is not directly interested in taxonomic categorical places of plants, rather, plants and plant parts that can give drugs or drug raw materials and how to obtain these substances, how to use these substances in human diseases. Having roots deep in the human history, pharmaceutical botany is still one of the most active science disciplines. Recent decades have seen the worldwide strengthening of the tendency to cure human diseases with natural treatments. This suggests that pharmaceutical botany will still be popular in the coming ages.
