In order to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable development in urban spaces, Prof. Dr. Yaşar MENTEŞ participated in the Urban Planning & Architectural Design for Sustainable Development (UPADSD) Symposium held by International Experts for Research Enrichment and Knowledge Exchange (IEREK) at the University of Florence in Florence, Italy between 24-26 October 2023 and invited scientists, academicians, researchers, experts and university students from all over the world. Yaşar MENTEŞ, PhD student of Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences, Department of Landscape Architecture, supervised by Prof. Dr. Sevgi YILMAZ, participated in person and presented the paper titled "Effect of Water Surfaces on Urban Heat Island" orally.
According to the results of this study, in which the cooling effect of water surfaces on the urban heat island was analysed using remote sensing and thermal satellite images, measures to be taken against the future water problem were evaluated, and it was predicted that the cooling effect of water surfaces will contribute positively to both the urban heat island and the thermal comfort in the city.
This study will be published in the ASTI Book series of the Scopus Indexed "Advances in Science, Technology, and Innovation" published by SPRINGER after the referee evaluation process.
