Faculty of Islamic Sciences was established on 12 March 1971 in accordance with the decision of the Board of Directors of Atatürk University, dated 21.11.1969 and numbered 32, and with the opinion of the Prime Ministry State Planning Organization, dated 04.12.1970 and numbered 16146, and kicked off the education in 1971-1972 academic year.
The Faculty of Islamic Sciences was opened in 1971 and moved to its own building in 1981.
When the faculty was first opened, faculty members continued their studies in a room of the faculty of letters for a while, then moved to the morphology building of the faculty of medicine. The first two-year education continued in this building (1971-1973). Subsequently, administrations and classes moved to the ground floor of the faculty of medicine research hospital, where 1.5 years of education was carried out. Later, faculty administration and academic staff moved to the upper floor of the faculty of business in 1976. Meanwhile, educational activities were carried out partly at the classrooms of the faculty of agriculture and partly at the classrooms of the faculty of business. Our faculty started to provide education in its own building, which was opened in the beginning of 1981.
Educational activities are carried out in the faculty of theology, which was established with the decree law no. 42 published on July 20, 1982.
Educational activities are still carried out in two buildings of the faculty, one of which is the education building and the other is the administration building. The faculty boasts of a library, computer and language laboratories with a very wide content. Students are offered education with up-to-date methods along with a variety of activities to contribute to the development of their social aspects.

Since 2009-2010 academic year, educational activities have been carried out in formal and evening education programs in the faculty.
