REMEMBRANCE DAY MESSAGE FROM RECTOR ÇOMAKLI TO THE MARTYRS OF SARIKAMIŞ
Operation Sarıkamış was initiated in 1878 to recapture Kars, Ardahan and Batumi, which were occupied by the Russians, and to prevent the Russian invasion of Eastern Anatolia. For the planned operation towards the end of December, the 3rd Army was stepping down Allahuekber mountains in Sarıkamış at -25 degrees in cold weather to throw the enemy out of the homeland, while troops were being melted away inch by inch by the cold not by Russians.
Some battles are won; some battles are lost and finished. Some soldiers are veterans; some are martyrs. But sometimes in wars, life freezes at that moment, like a cold breath ... 90,000 noble souls martyr before they can fight.
We commemorate our martyrs with respect and mercy on the 105th anniversary of the Sarıkamış Operation, beginning on 22 December 1914, where 90,000 soldiers froze to martyrdom.
