In the exhibition consisting of 53 works prepared in Atatürk University Art Gallery in order to show a conscientious reaction to the genocide experienced by the artists, the artists made a note in history as a reaction to the genocide with works such as painting, video art, installation and sculpture.
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı said that the exhibition, which describes the impact of the war in Gaza on people, is a wake-up call for humanity and that the works describing the pain and trauma brought by the war in Gaza will help raise awareness to increase understanding between people and end such tragedies.
‘These artefacts will guide us in understanding the suffering of the people of Gaza’
Stating that Gaza is a land that has endured many difficulties and hardships throughout history, Rector Çomaklı said ‘The wars in recent years have brought more pain and hardship to the people of this land. These wars have had devastating consequences affecting innocent civilians and especially children. However, the people of Gaza have shown incredible resilience and endurance against these challenges. This exhibition aims to show how the people of Gaza have come together and endured during this difficult period. The artists participating in the exhibition offer different perspectives to tell the story of this tragic period. The paintings, photographs and other works of art reflect the complexity of life in Gaza and the solidarity between people. I hope that these works will guide us to understand the true face of the war and the suffering of the people of Gaza.
However, this exhibition will not only remind us of the suffering, but also emphasise our need for peace, respect for human rights and humanitarian assistance. On this occasion, we must imagine a better future for the people in Gaza and for the whole world. It is the responsibility of all of us to defend world peace and human rights. While visiting the exhibition, we hope that these paintings and art will help open people's hearts and help us come together for a better world. Let us work together for a brighter future for the people of Gaza and all victims of war.’
Gaza, the Capital of Genocide Exhibition will host its visitors until 17 November.
