On May 19, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı issued a message commemorating Atatürk, Youth, and Sports Day. Rector Çomaklı expressed the following in his message:

The struggle, bravery, and sacrifices on the road to freedom began on May 19, 1919. It is the first step in a nation's war for survival against the world, despite the impossibilities, by pledging all of its wealth, life, and blood and declaring 'Either Independence or Death'.

On the anniversary of the struggle that started from Samsun to Anatolia like a sun, like a sword drawn from its scabbard, like a bullet at the end of the barrel, like a martyrdom intended for the sake of the homeland, may the souls of our heroes, especially Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms, who gifted and entrusted us this homeland at the cost of their lives, who fell to the ground for the sake of this cherished homeland, who became veterans, who threw them Celebrate Atatürk, Youth, and Sports Day on May 19th.
