APRIL 23 WAS ENTHUSIASTICALLY OBSERVED AT ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY.
Atatürk University enthusiastically observed the 104th Founding Anniversary of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day, on which the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, bestowed a gift to children.
Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftci, 9th Corps and Garrison Commander Major General Tevfik Algan, Mayor Mehmet Sekmen of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, Erzurum Technical University Rector Pof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Metin Düz, Provincial National Education Director Yakup Yıldız, and members of the city's military, judiciary, and bureaucracy were present at the program conducted at the National Will Hall on July 15.
Following a moment of silence and the rendition of the national anthem, the program featured poetry readings, musical performances accompanied by student-performed local dance, and addresses discussing the significance and meaning of the day. Following the emotive moments shared by the attendees, the celebration ceremony concluded with the children posing for souvenir photographs in observance with provincial custom.
"April 23 is the greatest indicator of trust in our youth," said Rector Çomaklı.
Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, conversely, assesses the significance and meaning of the day. He notes that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk bestowed upon children a holiday on April 23, 1920, the day the Grand Assembly of Turkey commenced, as an expression of his confidence in the future of Turkey's youth and children. Moreover, he observes this holiday annually with children. He reported that they collectively celebrated with great zeal.
Çomaklı expressed his utmost delight in hosting the significant event coordinated by the Provincial Directorate of National Education of Erzurum. He told that he was moved by the students' poetry and music recitals, as well as the meticulously planned local games. The students' national fervor and exuberance filled the room with hope for the future. Çomaklı expressed gratitude to all those who assisted in the coordination of the program and concluded by stating, "Once more, I pay homage with compassion, appreciation, and reverence to the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his companions in arms, and all our martyrs."
