At the meeting held under the leadership of Ataturk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, the subject of “Expectations from Graduate Education within the Scope of Research University” was discussed with the participation of the institute directors.

At the meeting held at the Cultural Center July 15 National Will Hall with the participation of vice-rectors, institute directors and deputy directors, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı reminded that within the scope of the "Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project" carried out by the Council of Higher Education, 20 Universities among 131 state universities providing education in Turkey were determined as Research Universities, and one of them was Atatürk University.

Rector Çomaklı: “Our University Has Embarked On A Path To Reposition Its Vision”

Çomaklı started his speech with the following remarks: the Performance Monitoring Index of the Research Universities is assessed 32 indicators under the headings of "Research Capacity", "Research Quality" and "Interaction and Collaboration" of the Research Universities determined in the "Research Oriented Mission Differentiation Program" carried out within the scope of the "Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project in Higher Education", which brings diversity to higher education by YÖK, continuing his speech as follows: “Atatürk University has entered the path of being positioned as a university that is at the forefront of universal science and works with a problem-oriented approach, can produce scientific solutions to social problems,  and is sensitive to social demands as well as directing them. The goal of our university on this path is to be among the top five universities in Turkish Higher Education and among the top 500 universities in the world. In this sense, our university has taken big and bold steps since 2016, formed its policies and started to implement them with determination. In line with these policies, I fully believe that all our unit managers, including our institutes, will walk confidently towards the same goal without any deviation.”

“It Is Of Great Importance For Our Units To Keep Up With The Transformation”

Rector Çomaklı stated that there is a need for a serious revision in institutes as a requirement of being a research university: “Institutes should be transformed into units that determine postgraduate education policies, take precautions and take initiative in the areas that fail, rather than just managing the Postgraduate Education Processes. Institutes are now required to align their activities according to 32 parameters. In this sense, we have determined the roadmap for the next process by sharing the issues that need to be focused in the light of these parameters that we shared with our managers. He concluded his speech by saying, "I believe that the Research University process, which will bring a new horizon to our university, will carry us further, and I thank you all for your participation."
