ATA AIT SIMURG FIGHTING UAV TEAM WILL COMPETE IN TEKNOFEST 2024 FINALS.
ATA AIT Simurg Fighting UAV Team, affiliated to the Artificial Intelligence and Technology Community operating within Atatürk University Faculty of Engineering, has achieved a significant success by qualifying to participate in Teknofest 2024 Fighting UAV Finals.
The autonomous aerial vehicle developed by the team is among the projects that will compete in this year's finals. The main goal of the project is based on enabling air vehicles to dogfight completely autonomously. In this context, the Simurg Team developed unique artificial intelligence algorithms. Thanks to these algorithms, the aircraft designed by the team can lock rival aircraft in the camera image and follow them for 4 seconds. This capability allows the vehicle to gain a great advantage over its rivals.
The Simurg Team has also designed a system that can successfully perform kamikaze missions for the destruction of ground targets. Within the framework of this mission, the aircraft can autonomously dive into QR-coded ground targets measuring 2.5x2.5 metres in size, and transmit data to the server by reading the QR code. This feature shows that the air vehicle developed by the team has versatile areas of use.
In addition, the Simurg Team's air vehicle was designed to avoid air defence systems and signal jamming areas that may be encountered in the competition area. This feature stands out as another important factor that enables the vehicle to successfully complete its mission. This success of the ATA AIT Simurg Fighting UAV Team once again proves the quality of Atatürk University in the field of engineering education and the research and development capabilities of the students.
