Atatürk University Faculty of Sports Sciences student Fatih Arda İpçioğlu became the first Turkish Athlete who made it to the finals of the Ski Jumping World Cup and earned World Cup points by being among the top 30 athletes.

Competing in the Oberstdorf leg of the 4 Hills Tournament, the most prestigious organization of Ski Jumping, the 24-year-old athlete became the 29th in the final as the first Turkish athlete to compete in the competition, and with the points he received, he increased the quota of the Crescent and Stars for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

İpçioğlu, who is the Turkish Ski Federation Ski Jumping Olympic National Athlete and earned 224.7 points with his jumps, stated that he is proud and happy to represent Turkey in the Winter Olympics with the degree he has achieved: “Our competition calendar is quite busy, but both lives in Erzurum and Atatürk. In these times, we understand the privilege of being a student at a university even better. Because our city is a winter sports city and we have a jumping tower with international standards. Likewise, a very successful education model is implemented in our university. We continue to fight tirelessly for our Crescent-Star uniform in an environment where we do not feel lacking in any area. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family, university rector, coaches and all my teachers who did not spare their support even for a moment.”

Rector Çomaklı: "This Pride Is Ours"

Congratulating Atatürk University National Athlete, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı pointed out that Atatürk University, which has won the most medals in the last 5 years with the achievements in inter-university sports competitions, is a sports center that also trains athletes for national teams. Rector Çomaklı pointed out that the athletes who represent their country in many branches are Atatürk University students or graduates: “We are happy to serve our country with sportive achievements besides scientific and academic studies. Our university, which has become a brand especially in winter sports, continues to receive the return of the breakthroughs it has made with the successes achieved. In this context, Fatih Arda İpçioğlu, one of our students from the Faculty of Sports Sciences, made us proud by achieving many firsts in the history of ski jumping in our country. I would like to congratulate him on his success and I would like to state that we will continue to provide all the necessary support.”
