ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY SIGNED PROTOCOL FOR DISASTER AWARENESS EDUCATION

Continuing its support for inter-institutional cooperation with its academic and scientific infrastructure, Atatürk University signed a Disaster Awareness Education Cooperation Protocol with the Erzurum Governorship Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency (AFAD).

Within the framework of the protocol signed by  Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı and Erzurum Governor Okay Memiş, an agreement was reached on the conduct of disaster awareness activities, disaster and emergency and civil defense activities to be carried out within the scope of the 2021 Turkey Disaster Education Year.

In the protocol, which includes articles on the coordination between the two institutions to increase disaster and emergency awareness at the country level and reduce disaster risks, the disaster and emergency preparation studies of students and academics at the university and its affiliated units, and the coordination of the activities within the scope of the 2021 Turkey Disaster Education Year, the joint venture of the institutions obligations were determined.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Okay Memiş said that the signed protocol is indefinite since disaster and emergency situations and civil defense activities are always needed. Stating that AFAD has duties such as organizing various educational activities such as disaster awareness, civil defense and mobilization services, Governor Memiş said that AFAD, which will coordinate educational, enlightening and informative activities for the public, will carry out many new studies with Atatürk University.

“Protocols Strengthen Inter-Agency Cooperation”

Emphasizing that all kinds of support will be provided for the dissemination of AFAD's activities for the public within the scope of disaster awareness, Rector Çomaklı emphasized the importance of informing students and academics about the acquisition of AFAD Volunteers.

Rector Çomaklı wished that the signed protocol would be beneficial for both institutions, and said that the protocols made add strength to inter-institutional cooperation.
