ATATURK UNIVERSITY IS PREPARING TO REGISTER ITS QUALITY IN THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS
Atatürk University has bolstered its endeavours to compete with global institutions by obtaining a complete accreditation certificate from the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK). In order to guarantee the university's quality standards' sustainability, preparations are ongoing, with the participation of all divisions.
Within this context, the Atatürk University Quality Coordination Office conducted a program entitled "The Importance and Necessity of Accreditation in Higher Education" that provided comprehensive information regarding the accreditation procedure. The meeting, which took place in the Prof. Dr. Kemal Bıyıkoğlu Hall, was attended by unit managers responsible for the quality process, as well as Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Reyhan Keleş, Prof. Dr. Bülent Çavuşoğlu, and Prof. Dr. Yüksel Göktaş. According to Quality Coordinator Prof. Dr. Bilal Yılmaz, accreditation is crucial for demonstrating that the university's activities in the areas of education, research, and social contribution meet international standards.
The significance of the contributions of all units was underscored in order to ensure the successful completion of the process.
Prof. Dr. Yılmaz declared that universities that have been thoroughly accredited by YÖKAK will possess this document for a period of five years. He also expressed his confidence that Atatürk University will effectively complete this process. According to Coordinator Yılmaz, Atatürk University was re-accredited in 2024 after being accredited for two years in 2021 as part of the Institutional Accreditation Program, which was implemented by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) to enhance the quality of higher education institutions and contribute to quality assurance. "The work we will undertake is not only a necessity, but also an opportunity to further the vision of our university." The certification of the quality education we offer as a consequence of this process will generate awareness on a national and international scale.
The Rectorate's letter to the units emphasised the significance of the contributions of all units in the successful completion of the process, as well as the preparation of the files and evidence to be transmitted to the YÖKAK system by March 3. In addition, the meeting underscored the importance of conducting evidence-based studies within the planning, implementation, evaluation, monitoring, and enhancement phases to renew accreditation, which is set to expire in six months.
Prof. Dr. Yılmaz emphasised that all divisions should evaluate their activities and produce explanations and evidence in accordance with the matching criteria, citing the field visit scheduled for April as an example. However, time was running out. By effectively completing this process, Atatürk University intends to fortify its leadership among higher education institutions in Turkey and establish a more robust presence in the international arena.
