ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY CONTINUES TO MAKE HISTORY IN ACCREDITATION
Atatürk University effectively executes its accreditation procedures in collaboration with the New Generation University Design and Transformation Project, with an emphasis on the accreditation process utilized by unbiased governing bodies to verify the quality of instruction delivered.
Within this framework, Atatürk University ascended to the top of the ranking of universities offering accredited programs. This ascent was the result of the research and studies conducted by the Associate and Undergraduate Education Coordinatorship and the Quality Coordinatorship, whose missions were to enhance the caliber of education at the university and direct the accreditation of its programs, respectively. Atatürk University's success was widespread throughout Turkey.
Ataturk University, which has granted accreditation to a combined 55 programs across 129 state universities, 23 research universities, and 53 universities that have obtained corporate accreditation, has established itself as the preeminent institution in Turkey, ranking first among 208 universities.
The assessment of thirty-one programs continues.
Although a mere seven undergraduate programs obtained accreditation in 2019 and their accreditation periods concluded in 2020, these established divisions oversaw the preparation of accreditation files for forty programs in 2020 and twenty-three programs in 2021. A total of 30 programs sought accreditation in 2021, followed by 33 programs in 2022. This discrepancy may be attributed to accreditation bodies imposing numerical quotas on certain programs or failing to receive applications for certain programs. 53 programs at Atatürk University had obtained accreditation by the conclusion of 2023, with 55 programs having done so as of March 2024. Presently, 31 programs are undergoing evaluation.
Academics Were Provided With Guidance Services and Seminars
The academic staff and administrators of programs preparing an accreditation application should be questioned on the following: "What is accreditation, where do we begin, and what are the necessary steps?" Seminars and essential guidance services were consistently offered at Atatürk University, where the coordinator and rectorate accompanied accreditation bodies on their field visits to faculties and provided the necessary assistance in the requested domains. Additionally, a "Quality Action Plan" was developed with the aim of enhancing the comprehension of quality at Atatürk University. This action plan served as a crucial guide for organizations attempting to conduct quality and accreditation studies efficiently. Academic divisions established quality commissions in order to execute the quality action plan.
"Our University ranks first among 208 universities," stated Rector Çomaklı.
Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, the rector of Atatürk University, assessed the matter and stated that accreditation has become ingrained in the university culture. Accreditation is a quality certificate bestowed by independent national and international institutions upon universities to attest to the caliber of education they deliver. Rector Çomaklı asserted that the inquiries conducted in accordance with the New Generation University Design and Transformation Project, which commenced upon their inauguration, elicited prompt responses. As a consequence of these inquiries, he made the following statement: "When comparing the quantity of accredited programs offered by universities recognized or registered with YÖKAK, our institution accomplished a noteworthy feat by attaining the top rank out of 208 universities. "Following these achievements, we have achieved our goal of becoming the university with the highest number of program accreditations at the undergraduate level among universities in Turkey in 2024, with the accreditation and quality policy of our university."
"Social Progress Resulted From The Transformation Inherent in Reform"
Çomaklı underscored the rapid historical transformation that led to a 55-program increase in just four years, stating, "Our university's success in its accreditation journey is largely attributable to the coordination, dean, program managers, academic and administrative staff's dedication to this endeavor, their conviction, internalization, and enthusiasm." Teamwork also played a significant role in this accomplishment. In light of the foregoing, I extend my sincere gratitude to all the esteemed members who have contributed to the strengthening of our university's standing in the realm of scientific research, both domestically and internationally. With this in mind, I am certain that we shall jointly attain numerous triumphs."
