Embryos are Transferred to Carrier Mothers

In the project carried out with the facilities of the Animal Hospital and Embryo Laboratory and the Food and Livestock Application and Research Center (GUHAM) within the Veterinary Faculty; while some of the embryos from Simmental breed donor cows were transported to surrogate mothers, the other embryos were then frozen to be transported and used for embryo research.

The project, which will support animal breeding and embryo research, is also intended to contribute to the Elite Breeding Herd Production Center Installation Project with Embryo Transfer in Eastern Anatolia Region signed between Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality and Atatürk University.

Rector Çomaklı stated that Atatürk University has trained and experienced veterinarians and that their field conditions, scientific and physical possibilities are capable of performing embryo transplantation, and that embryo transfer has many advantages.

With the Embryo Transplant Method, Several Calves Can Be Obtained Per Year

Rector Çomaklı said that it is possible to obtain more offspring from a cow while obtaining only one calf per year, and that this method reduces the risk of disease transmission and is the shortest, fastest and most reliable way of breeding.

Rector Çomaklı, who stated that calves born at the place of surrogate mothers were born prepared for environmental microbes, said: “Embryo transfer application has started to be applied in order to improve the genetic progress in order to get the best efficiency in our dairy farms and these enterprises. As Atatürk University, we are making the necessary progress in agriculture and animal husbandry both in order to work in accordance with the National Agriculture Project of our country and to keep up with the age. ”
