ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY SELECTED AS PILOT UNIVERSITY FOR BIG DATA PROJECT
Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı participated in the Big Data Project meeting held under the leadership of the President of the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar.
In addition to Atatürk University Rector, the Rectors of Istanbul Teknik, Ortadoğu Teknik, İzmir Katip Çelebi, Sabancı, Fırat, Sakarya and Trabzon Universities, which are at the forefront of digital transformation and selected as the pilot universities in this direction, and academicians who took part in the project works, attended the meeting held in the capital Ankara.
President Özvar: “Big Data will rapidly improve performance and quality in Higher Education”
It is inevitable to start such a process for the implementation of Big Data, the valuable phenomenon of the information age, which is still in its infancy, in Turkish Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar said. "The big data that has emerged with the development of information technologies will rapidly improve the performance and quality in higher education, and that the discovery and widespread use of large amounts of data obtained from different sources will accelerate Turkish higher education at an international level." he added.
"The universities selected within the scope of the project will be supported in many areas, especially in the employment of teaching staff, creation of postgraduate programs and providing project support. The project will be especially helpful to researchers and research at universities, especially in improving the educational processes, problem solutions, evidence-based research, learning and teaching techniques." he said in his statement, adding he believes that it will make a significant contribution to its structure.
Rector Çomaklı: “ATA-KÖK project will connect the entire ecosystem”
Making an assessment on the subject at the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, on the other hand, noted that Atatürk University has been working on data management for a long time and has developed many new models for this field. He made the following remarks: “In today's world where digital change and transformation is taking place so rapidly, we put into practice the New Generation University Design and Transformation Project, which we have put into practice in order to keep up with the developments and even to be one step ahead. We believe that the data management system we have started with our ATA-KÖK project, which is among the most important outputs of our Transformation Project, will lead our university. This project, which is a common system of systems that connects stakeholder networks by integrating all projects of our university primarily in the field of research and social contribution mission, will connect the entire ecosystem of our university when fully implemented. The backbone of this project-based integration is digital systems based on machine learning and artificial intelligence. While the system processes the big data of our university in this field, it will also support data management and decision processes.”
The Project will generate added value in line with our country's priorities
Rector Çomaklı said that the ATA-KÖK system is defined through 5 basic functions: “These functions are as follows: determining the project policies, developing partnerships with the stakeholders of the projects to be developed, supporting the operational needs of the projects, ensuring the development of researchers and ensuring automation with the information system infrastructure. With the ATA-KÖK system, our University will be able to reach human resources and funds that will ensure their own sustainability while generating added value in line with the country's priorities.”
