ATATURK UNIVERSITY CONTINUES COVID-19 VACCINE STUDIES

Starting to work on the Coronavirus which emerged in Wuhan, China in December and became a global pandemic in a short period of time , Ataturk University continues its researches within the scope of Vaccine Production and Antigen Preparation Coordinatorship.

The Rector of Ataturk University Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı stated that our country was also affected by this pandemic which threats human health and so our country was in struggle against this with the help of all its managers and institutions.

The rector Çomaklı said in addition to Ministry of Health and affiliated hospitals, Ataturk University showed great effort to prevent this pandemic and added that the university was in forefront of this struggle and continued its studies on treatment, protection and hygiene.

15 Faculty Members Work Actively

Stating that Vaccine Production and Antigen Preparation Coordinatorship was established with hard efforts at Atatürk University, the Rector Çomaklı said: “Our coordinatorship started preparations from the day the first case was detected. 15 faculty members who are expert on their field are appointed actively. Besides the Faculty of Medicine, Medical Microbiology Pharmacology, Infectious Diseases and Child Health Diseases, the faculty members of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Sciences Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering and the two directors in the relevant departments of the Provincial Health Directorate participated in this multidisciplinary board. The task of this board is to produce vaccines and prepare antigens for all of the parasite, fungus, bacteria and virus germs, especially against the mentioned virus infection. Our coordinatorship, which was founded to prepare vaccines and antigens against the future epidemics, has covered a lot of ground in this regard. In the light of these developments, I would like to state once again that Atatürk University continues to work for its country with 63 years of experience, well-equipped personnel and technological background.”
