ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY RETURNS FIRST IN TCIP EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT BUILDING DESIGN COMPETITION 2022

Atatürk University left its mark on the Natural Disaster Insurance Institution (DASK) Earthquake Resistant Building Design Competition, which was implemented with the aim of increasing the earthquake awareness and earthquake-resistant building design skills of all university students, especially civil engineer candidates.

Atatürk University Engineering Faculty Civil Engineering Department, which came first in the "General" and "Best Earthquake Performance" categories in the 6th competition held this year, achieved an important success.

The team, supervised by Professor of Civil Engineering Department. Dr. Abdulkadir Cüneyt Aydın, Assoc. Dr. Mahmut Kilic,  Res. Asst.Oğuzhan Çelebi and PhD Student Oğuzhan Akarsu, and consisting of his students, Gökçenur Zehra Koçak, Halis Sevencan, Sudenur Sıddıka Kağızmanlı, Mert Aydın, Bahar Ayça Polat, won the best earthquake performance special award as well as the first prize.

The students, who received the award plaque from TCIP Chairman of the Board of Directors and Deputy Chairman of the Insurance and Private Pensions Regulation and Supervision Agency, Mete Güler, received the Turkish Reinsurance Special Award and an award worth 50 thousand TL for the supply of laboratory equipment to universities, in addition to the monetary award.

“We Tend To Forget The Pain Of The Earthquake After It Happened”

TCIP Coordinator Erdal Turgut stated that the young civil engineer candidates have transformed the theoretical knowledge they acquired during the university into practice thanks to this competition and said: We tend to forget these pains, which we remember after earthquakes when time has passed since the earthquake. However, in order for these sufferings not to be experienced again, we must always be aware of the earthquake reality and be prepared for it. There are many precautions we need to take to be truly prepared for an earthquake. At this point, I believe that your knowledge, experience, and the importance you place on earthquake-resistant construction will make significant contributions to our country.”

Rector Çomaklı: “Civil Engineering Department Has Signed An Exemplary Work”

Congratulating the Civil Engineering Department faculty members and students who came first in both categories in TCIP's Earthquake Resistant Building Design Competition, which offers civil engineering and architecture students the opportunity to work on earthquake-resistant high-rise building design and model construction, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı; said that they attach importance to such competitions in order to introduce the profession of earthquake engineering, to encourage students to specialize in this field, and to create awareness of earthquake and earthquake resistant buildings.

Rector Çomaklı stated that they always support all faculty members and students who contribute to the mission of the university by producing projects that are beneficial to the society, and thanked everyone who contributed by stating that the Civil Engineering Department carried out an exemplary study.
