178TH ANNIVERSARY OF AGRICULTURE EDUCATION CELEBRATION WAS HOSTED BY ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY
A programme was hosted by Atatürk University on the occasion of the 178th Anniversary of Agricultural Education in Turkey and 10th January World Agricultural Engineers Day.
Erzurum Deputy Governor Ahmet Özdemir, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Atilla Keskin, Deputy Secretary General of the Metropolitan Municipality Ahmet Kılıç, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Önder Çalmaşur, Erzurum Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Alparslan Kenger, Chamber of Agricultural Engineers Erzurum Branch President Serkan Tezcan, Faculty of Agriculture academicians, sector representatives, relevant managers of public institutions and students attended the event held in the Blue Hall of the Cultural Centre.
Agricultural production should be carried out with sustainable and environmentally friendly methods
Starting in 1846, the programme emphasised that agricultural education, which has a long and deep-rooted history, is becoming more and more important; Agricultural Engineers work in a wide range of fields from soil analysis to plant breeding, from water resources management to disease and pest control and have a critical importance for the future of humanity. In the programme, it was pointed out that Agricultural Engineers play a critical role in finding solutions to the problem, especially when the food crisis, increasing population and changing climatic conditions threaten food security worldwide, and the participants stated that agricultural production should not only be increased in quantity, but also be carried out with sustainable and environmentally friendly methods.
It was expressed that agricultural education is the basis for the training of Agricultural Engineers who will produce solutions to the problems encountered at national and international level, in this context, more efforts should be made to bring Turkish agriculture to better points and it is inevitable to experience new breakthroughs in agriculture by following the right policies.
Achievements and Efforts Given to the Profession were Rewarded
After the speeches, the programme; In the 2022 evaluations made within the framework of Atatürk University Academic Performance Directive, plaques were presented to the top three academic staff with the highest academic performance score among the academic staff with the title of Associate Professor in the Faculty of Agriculture, the top three academic staff with the highest academic performance score among the academic staff with the title of Dr Lecturer in the Faculty of Agriculture, the top three academic staff with the highest academic performance score among the academic staff with the title of Research Assistant in the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Heads of the Departments of the Departments that ranked in the top three with the average of academic performance score and points per researcher on the basis of Departments in the Faculty of Agriculture.
Within the scope of the programme, congratulatory certificates were given to scientists who received the title of Doctor in the 2022-2023 academic year, and plaques were given to engineers who graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture in the 1992-1993 academic year and received the title of Agricultural Engineer and worked for many years in the profession.
