ATATURK UNIVERSITY TOOK ITS PLACE AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE WINTER GAMES

Erzurum has initiated the "2025 ECO Tourism Capital" events, which are designed to fortify the shared cultural and commercial bonds among the member countries of the commercial Cooperation Organisation (ECO). The enthusiastic opening ceremony of the Winter Games, the inaugural program of the events, was also witnessed by Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, and was conducted at Havuzbaşı City Square.

The Atatürk University Ice Works Museum Coordination provided a specially prepared ice work for the occasion, which was inaugurated by the ceremony. Subsequently, a procession was conducted to the Twin Minaret Madrasah. In the event, students from 10 ECO member countries delivered speeches in their native languages and conveyed messages of fraternity and solidarity. The Mehter Team and the Erzurum Bar Team's performances were the source of some of the most exuberant moments.

The inauguration of the organisation, which encompassed a variety of winter sports such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, and speed skating, was well-attended. The event was attended by numerous academic and administrative personnel, as well as civil, administrative, bureaucratic, military, and judicial officials of the city. Additionally, Atatürk University students shared this enthusiasm.

Rector Hacımüftüoğlu: "We are of the opinion that Erzurum will serve as a significant international showcase."

The opening program of the ceremony featured the following assessments by Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu: "We are of the opinion that Erzurum, which will be designated as the ECO Tourism Capital for the duration of 2025, will serve as a significant international showcase due to its robust winter tourism infrastructure and rich cultural heritage." We, at Atatürk University, will persist in our efforts to advance and develop our city throughout this process. I am optimistic that these organisations will play a significant role in the development of friendship and cooperation between ECO member countries by fortifying the solidarity between them.

The Winter Games were officially initiated with the symbolic lighting of the torch, the organization's emblem, at the conclusion of the opening ceremony.

What is the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO)?

In 1964, Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey established the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) under the name Regional Development Cooperation (RCC). The organisation, which adopted the name ECO in 1985, is dedicated to fostering sustainable economic development in order to enhance cooperation and prosperity among its member countries. Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkey comprise the ECO, which comprises ten member countries at present. Observer status is granted to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The 2025 ECO Tourism Capital events, which commenced in Erzurum, will be conducted by a variety of organisations throughout the year.
