ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY FROM ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ON THE ROAD TO TEKNOFEST
With its qualified students and innovative concepts, Atatürk University continues to contribute to the scientific advancement of our nation. In 2025, the "2242 University Students Research Project Competitions" were organised for the 13th time by TÜBİTAK BİDEB, and the Computer Engineering Department students of Atatürk University Faculty of Engineering achieved another significant victory.
Four of the six projects prepared by Computer Engineering students were among the 91 projects that advanced to the finals as a result of the preliminary evaluation in the competition conducted within the scope of TEKNOFEST, the world's largest Aviation, Space, and Technology Festival. Consequently, Atatürk University has once more demonstrated its efficacy in the production and execution of projects this year.
Prominent Projects in the Field of Artificial Intelligence, IoT, and Smart Systems
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Dal, a member of the Computer Engineering faculty at Atatürk University, supervised the completion of undergraduate graduation projects that advanced to the finals in various categories. The jury members awarded complete marks to projects that were prepared in a variety of disciplines, including Education, Health, Smart Cities, and Energy-Environment, not only for their technical skill but also for their potential to contribute to social benefit.
DISLEXPEN: An Artificial Intelligence-Supported Smart Pen for Dyslexia and Dysgraphia, was developed by Hatice Nur Aktoğan. It was selected for the finals as one of the top 10 projects in the Education category.
Merve Erdem and Nursemin Şenel developed the IoT-Based Density Tracking and Hygiene System for Public Toilets project. The initiative was one of the ten projects that advanced to the finals in the Smart Cities and Transportation category.
Samet Can Akbulut and Hümeyra Ören signed DIAASSIST, an artificial intelligence-supported automatic carbohydrate counting and insulin dose calculation application for diabetics. It was one of the ten initiatives that qualified for the final competition in the Health category.
Senanur Topal and Yusuf Kağan Yıldırım developed ECODÖNÜŞÜM: Artificial Intelligence-Supported Smart Waste Classification and Recycling Assistant, which was chosen as a finalist in the Energy and Environment category.
Award Ceremony at TEKNOFEST, Final Evaluations in July
The final evaluations of the university student research project competitions will be conducted online from July 1 to July 4, 2025. The awards will be presented to the projects that are regarded successful at this juncture during a ceremony that will be performed as part of TEKNOFEST 2025.
The advisor of the projects, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Dal, conveyed his satisfaction with the dedication and accomplishment of his students, stating, "We are proud of our students as the Computer Engineering Department." These accomplishments demonstrate that they are developing into socially sensitive, solution-oriented, and visionary individuals. The fact that our initiatives have reached the final stage this year is a tremendous source of pride for both our department and our university, as in previous years. I am grateful for the assistance of our Department Head, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Bozkurt, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. İhsan Efeoğlu, and Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, the Rector of Atatürk University, also extended his congratulations to the students who will represent the university in the final competition. He stated, "Our students' scientific competence and productivity are a source of pride for us." I commend them on their accomplishment and extend my best wishes for success in the final competition, which will be conducted at TEKNOFEST.
