ATATURK UNIVERSITY SENATE'S DECISION TO CONDEMN ISRAEL'S ATTACKS AGAINST PALESTINE

The Senate of Atatürk University, which convened on 20.10.2023 under the chairmanship of Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, issued a decision of condemnation regarding Israel's attacks on Palestine.

The following statements were included in the decision taken by the University Senate:

We are profoundly outraged by the heinous, inhumane, and unlawful assaults that Israel launched against the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip and numerous other locations occupied by innocent civilians. Hundreds were injured and at least 500 people, including patients, women, and children, were killed.

In the name of defense, Israel commits clear war crimes by storming hospitals with human immunity under all circumstances, endangering the lives of children, women, the elderly, the ill and injured, and defenseless individuals, and attacking innocent civilians.

A mentality that deliberately targets hospitals and schools while targeting civilians in assaults that have claimed the lives of 3,785 individuals thus far will inevitably be held accountable in the eyes of international law and conscience. Not only does Israel's potentially perilous political stance endanger the Palestinian people, but it also imperils international peace and fraternity.

Concerning the future of the world and the region is the careless stance of developed Western nations, the European Union, and international institutions established to prevent such atrocities in the face of this oppression, which disregards and overlooks fundamental human rights and freedoms and the rules of law.

We hope that other international organizations, especially the UN, EU, NATO, will take concrete, authentic and effective steps rather than condemning them to put an end to this brutality. We call on all humanity to take action to end the suffering in the region.

We express our endorsement of the diplomatic endeavors undertaken by the Republic of Turkey in pursuit of a lasting peace in the region in accordance with the two-state vision. In this regard, we, as members of Atatürk University, declare our readiness to discharge all our obligations.

Our souls bled during this atrocious and inhumane massacre, which will forever remain a black mark on human history. As the Senate of Atatürk University, we declare our solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people and condemn vehemently this genocide, which is being systematically orchestrated by occupying Israel in furtherance of state policy, with the support of its patron, the United States, and the others. We reiterate our commitment to justice, human rights, and harmony at this time. As it has done thus far, Atatürk University will maintain in the future its resolute support for the oppressed Palestinian people and all oppressed peoples throughout the globe.

We extend our deepest condolences to our Palestinian comrades who perished in the assault, and we pray that God will have mercy on the fallen and hasten the recovery of the injured.

It is respectfully announced to the public..
