ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY IS READY FOR THE NEW TERM WITH ITS SOCIAL AND SPORTIVE FACILITIES

Atatürk University, which is among the universities with the greatest demand due to its cultural, social, and sporting amenities as well as its high-quality education, continues its preparations for the upcoming semester.

Atatürk University, which enhances its physical facilities on the one hand and its scientific infrastructure on the other, continues to conduct research that will enhance the social and educational opportunities of its students. During the academic year, Atatürk University encourages its students to participate in a variety of social, athletic, and cultural activities in addition to their formal education. This allows students to develop a wide range of skills.

The Sports Centre, which features an athlete test center and a semi-Olympic swimming pool, courts, bowling, game, and cinema halls, a botanical garden, bicycle roads, social facilities, and museums, is the most popular location for university members and citizens who wish to participate in social and sporting activities throughout the year.

Rector Çomaklı: "We Offer Our Students a Rich Social Life"

Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, rector of Atatürk University, stated that this success is possible not only through academic studies but also through the university's rich social life that it offers its students. He stated that Atatürk University is of great value to its region and country, and that it maintains a 100 percent occupancy rate during every preference period.

Rector Çomaklı stated that Atatürk University is continually raising the bar for success with its national and international accomplishments and student-centered education approach. He added, "We will continue to add value to our future by putting our students at the center of everything we do. Together with all of our stakeholders, we strive to cultivate the qualified human resources our nation requires. For this reason, we coordinate activities throughout the year where our students can both socialize and achieve physical and mental calmness in addition to their academic pace. I expect that the upcoming semester will be both academically and socially fruitful, and I wish all of my students a prosperous academic year."

Sports Centre

In the public section of the Sports Centre, which consists of two main sections, the 1000 m2 Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool, which is 25 metres long, 16 metres wide, 2 metres constant depth and 6 lanes in accordance with the International Swimming Federation (FINA) standards, continues to serve with the Clean Pool Certificate with a children's pool, fitness room, Turkish bath, sauna and steam room, and men's and women's sessions.

In the other section, where the Athlete Performance Measurement and Evaluation Centre is located, an important infrastructure service is provided for professional athletes. Opened in 2019, all kinds of performance measurements of athletes can be made digitally in the centre. In the centre, which also contributes to sports tourism; physiological and psychological performance measurements of athletes can be made and their performance development can be increased. According to the tests, various training programmes are recommended at the athlete training centre. In this way, the athletes' competition performances are increased and they achieve success at national and international level.

Ata Botanical Garden

Ata Botanical Garden, which is established on approximately 350 decares of land starting from the junction of Atatürk University campus, where samples of trees, flowers and plants in Eastern Anatolia are collected; It continues to be a popular destination for students, staff and local and foreign tourists.

Ata Botanical Garden, which hosts dozens of plant species such as acacia species, fir, spruce, pine, juniper, thuja species, linden, oak species, rowan, sumac, birch species, ornamental fruits, plum, cherry, pear, cherry, mulberry, apple, cranberry, rosehip, also includes rare species brought from high altitude regions of the world.

The park, which opens at 10 a.m. until 19 p.m., offers approximately 5 thousand m2 artificial pond, pedestrian paths, wooden service building, pergolas and camellias, benches and sitting areas, WC, car park, bridge, rock gardens, jogging areas, orchard, grassed surfaces, seasonal flower and tulip show areas to the service of its visitors. In addition to visitors who want to make use of the colourful nature and beauties of the park, wedding photographers immortalise the happiest moments of couples in hundreds of areas they use as "natural studios".

Hobby Garden

The hobby gardens, which were built to increase the sense of belonging of the staff, to add diversity to their social lives and to strengthen internal communication, are one of the most preferred areas of the university members, especially with the increase in air temperature. The area, where there are 414 camellias and gardens in total, allows the personnel to reach the university easily with its proximity to the university.

Museums

This year marks the 67th anniversary of the founding of Atatürk University, which continues to service the country's higher education with a history approaching a century. During this process, the university, which looks to the future with confidence because of the significant knowledge it has acquired and the students it has educated and graduated, offers some of the locations where it transforms its knowledge into concrete form as museums for the benefit of its members and citizens.

In addition to the Ata Ice Museum, which is the only one in Turkey, the Biodiversity Science Museum, which hosts thousands of living species, and the Hospital Museum, which is located in the Research Hospital and includes the tools and equipment used in treatments, are actively serving, while a museum where the products used in the Faculty of Agriculture, which is one of the oldest faculties in the country, will be exhibited, and the printing press museum, which includes the printing machines, will soon open.

Student Centre

Atatürk University, which adapts to the current academic, social, and cultural structure by undergoing an enormous change as part of the New Generation University Design and Transformation Project, mobilizes all of its facilities to provide its students with an enjoyable campus life in addition to education and science.

In this context, the Student Centre, which has served students and university staff for many years, serves an important role in terms of socialization by allowing students to participate in a variety of enjoyable activities. In the Student Centre, which is open from 9 a.m. to 11:22 p.m., students can enjoy 12 billiard tables and 8 bowling lanes, as well as hot and cold snacks and fast food style eating and drinking options, while preparing for exams in a reading room with nearly 2,000 books.

Library and Reading Rooms

Atatürk University has one of the most extensive library facilities in the country; in addition to the Fuat Sezgin Library and Reading Hall, its newly opened Garage Reading Hall provides students with a variety of study options.

In the Garage Reading Hall, which serves approximately one thousand students simultaneously on a total closed area of three thousand square meters, there is an artificial intelligence and robotics workshop, eight study halls, each with an area of approximately 150 square metres, two masjids (male and female) with an area of fourteen square metres, two WCs (male and female) with an area of fifty-two square metres, and two disabled WCs. In addition, it is proposed to construct social living areas, fields for various sports activities, and recreation areas in the garden of the reading hall, where there is a canteen with an area of approximately 400 square meters.

Wall of Climbing, Canoeing, and Rafting Pool

The Outdoor Sports Complex at Atatürk University is home to the largest sports climbing wall in Turkey, measuring 22.5 meters. In addition, the area is home to the largest Ice Climbing Wall in Turkey. In the enormous indoor pool, rafting and canoeing fundamentals are instructed. In this area, which hosts numerous festivals and events throughout the year, elective courses are also taught in practice by the Faculty of Sports Sciences and Atatürk University.

Horse Riding

Within the context of its mission to integrate with society, Atatürk University stands out for its scientific and academic studies, along with its studies for the broader community. In this context, Atatürk University's Manege Area and Equine Coordination Department provides equestrian facilities with 1 indoor and 5 outdoor manege areas for horse riding instruction.

Student Clubs

At Atatürk University, where there are over a hundred student clubs, social, cultural, artistic, and athletic activities are conducted, as well as academically beneficial professional endeavors. The organizations, which enable students to acquire the habits of relaxation, amusement, and social participation, also expedite the process of adaptation through their shared activities.
