ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY RETURNED WITH DEGREES FROM TEKNOFEST

TEKNOFEST, which was held for the 6th time this year, took place on 27 April - 1 May 2023 at Istanbul Atatürk Airport. Atatürk University returned with degrees from the festival where many shows and races were organised in the field of aviation, space and technology.

TEKNOFEST Aviation, Space and Technology Festival, organised under the leadership of Turkey Technology Team Foundation and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, took place with an intense participation. The awards of the competitions organised within the scope of TEKNOFEST'23 found their owners with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In the competitions organised within the scope of the event, the project teams of Atatürk University students made an impression with their success. With 3 first place, 3 second place and 1 third place, Atatürk University students were among the prominent teams of TEKNOFEST.

Ataturk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı congratulated all the teams participating in TEKNOFEST and wishing them continued success and expressed that they are also happy to take part as a stakeholder university in such an important event that brings young people together with science and to achieve degrees.

Rector Çomaklı stated that Domestic and National Technology Movement constitutes the foundations of independent Turkey and that TEKNOFEST events are the place where this is celebrated in a festival atmosphere: "High-tech products such as UAV, SİHA, TİHA, electric car, which we focus on the production as Turkey, have become developments that make us all proud and exemplary all over the world. TEKNOFEST has become a very important platform for our young people to participate in the National Technology Movement. Any investment in education and young people is one of the most sacred homeland services. We firmly believe that the support for our youth should continue to increase for the guarantee of our future and the guarantee of our independence."

Rector Çomaklı: "I sincerely congratulate our students who have achieved a degree"

Stating that having a say on the world stage is through scientific achievements, Rector Çomaklı said that Turkey has made a breakthrough in this regard in recent years and has achieved significant successes: "The world is now talking about artificial intelligence and robots that are included in human life in this direction. It is necessary to carry out studies that will keep up with these developments and even go one step ahead. Our universities, which are the centres of science, and all our institutions that provide education and conduct research have prepared themselves for this breakthrough. TEKNOFEST is one of the areas where these preparations show themselves. Our students participated in the event with the projects and studies they prepared and achieved various degrees. I congratulate all our students and their counsellors and wish them continued success."

Emphasising that Erzurum, an important educational city with its thousand years of ancient history, madrasas, universities and many science centres, is capable of hosting TEKNOFEST, Rector Çomaklı added that he believes that a wide range of benefits can be obtained by hosting such a large organisation.

 Best Presentation Award to Psychology 4.0 Team

Psychology 4.0, one of the project branch teams of Health 4.0, one of the student clubs of Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, received the best presentation award in the category of Technological Applications in Psychology at TEKNOFEST. The team, whose advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenan Taştan is the advisor of the project named psychology support and follow-up programme in preventing suicide attempts in young and young adults, consists of 5 medical faculty and 1 engineering faculty students.

The Best Presentation Award in the Biotechnology Innovation Idea Category was given to ARÇURA Team

The project titled "Biosensor Model for Rapid Identification of Smallpox Virus, a Potential Bioterrorist Agent Smallpox Virus" was prepared by İbrahim Dağcı and Kübra Solak, who are continuing their graduate studies under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yağmur Ünver, Faculty Member of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Mavi, Faculty Member of the Department of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Mavi from the Department of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, the project titled "Biosensor Model for Rapid Diagnosis of Smallpox Virus, a Potential Bioterrorist Agent" was again awarded the best presentation award in the Biotechnology Innovation Idea category.

TÜBA TEKNOFEST Doctorate Science Award to Atatürk University...

TÜBA TEKNOFEST PhD Science Award, which is given for the best thesis study organised by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) every year, was awarded to Atatürk University Faculty Member Dr. Sümeyye Ulaş for her thesis titled "Adaptation of Parent Child Interaction Therapy to Turkish Culture and Investigation of its Effectiveness on Children Diagnosed with Autism and Typically Developing Children and Their Parents".

TTurks Rocket Team Ranked Second Among 407 Teams

Participating in TEKNOFEST Vertical Landing Rocket Competition; TTurks Rocket Team, which was established by Atatürk University Faculty of Engineering students, within the Aviation-Space and Defence Technologies Club, became the 2nd in Turkey.

The aim of the competition held under the supervision of Tübitak SAGE is to develop the rocket for space missions with a controlled soft landing from a certain height to the ground, driven by a cold gas propulsion system. The TTurks Rocket Team, advised by Prof. Dr. Köksal Erentürk, successfully passed the reporting and testing stages of the competition, to which 407 teams applied, and was entitled to be among the 13 finalist teams. TTurks Rocket Team was ranked 2nd in Turkey with the evaluation of expert referees in the field of final shooting.

Computer Engineering Department won 2 Turkish Degrees

Ataturk University Computer Engineering Department students once again achieved a great success in the final of the University Students Research Project Competitions coded 2242, which was organised for the 11th time in 2023 by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Scientific and Technological Research Council (BİDEB) and achieved 2 Turkey degrees.

The Artificial Intelligence Supported New Generation Driver Warning System project prepared by Hira Beril Küçük and Oğuz Can Özdemir under the supervision of Dr Lecturer Deniz DAL, a faculty member of Atatürk University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Computer Engineering, was ranked 2nd in Turkey in the Machinery Manufacturing and Automotive category. Similarly, Hakan Efe, Fırat Sönmez and Serhan Pehlivan, with their project Resource Monitoring and Reservation System for Self-Service Laundries, were awarded 2nd place in the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship category.

Third Place in the Life Without Barriers Competition

Researcher. Assist. Onur Erdem Korkmaz, Sevde Gül Korkmaz, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Çoban, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emin Argun Oral and Prof. Dr. İbrahim Yücel Özbek came 3rd in Unimpeded Life Technologies at TEKNOFEST. In the project, a Brain Computer Interface System was developed in which patients with ALS and spinal cord paralysis, who cannot speak and cannot communicate with those around them in any way, will communicate with their surroundings by writing only with their thoughts. The team, who implemented a system where people can transfer their requests from the keyboard on the computer screen using brain signals (EEG), won the 3rd prize with their work, which enables both the companions to understand the patients and the sick individuals to convey all kinds of needs and demands to their relatives.
