On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, Centenary Conference was organised within the scope of the events held at Atatürk University.

Prof. Dr. Zülal Özkurt and Prof. Dr. Hakan Hadi Kadıoğlu addressed the audience in the conference moderated by Prof. Dr. Nurinisa Öztürk and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevilay Özmen at the Faculty of Medicine Research Hospital Conference Hall.

In the conference, which attracted great interest from academics and students, Prof. Dr. Zülal Özkurt, with her presentation on Health in the Republican Era, touched upon the health problems, especially infectious diseases, the low average age of death, the low number of hospitals and pharmacies during the National Struggle. Today, he provided information about the leading capacity of Erzurum Research Hospital.

With his presentation titled Erzurum on the Road to the Republic, Prof. Dr. Hakan Hadi Kadıoğlu talked about the time Atatürk spent during the Erzurum Congress, the situation of the army during the First World War and the means of salvation. Kadıoğlu, who read a part of Atatürk's Address to the Youth to the audience, mentioned the National Struggle of the Turkish nation with the slogan 'Either Independence or Death' while moving towards independence.

The programme ended with the presentation of flowers to the speakers by Prof. Dr. Muhammet Hamidullah Uyanık, Vice Dean of Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine.
