A MEETING OF 1004 CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE WAS CONDUCTED AT ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY.

The program call for TUBITAK-1004 was reopened in 2024 under the heading High Technology Platforms-Green Transformation, following its initial call in 2018.

Numerous faculty members, including Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, and members of the Project Development and Coordination Office team were in attendance at the information meeting conducted in the Prof. Dr. Kemal Bıyıkoğlu Hall of the Cultural Center as part of this call, in which research universities participate.

Labor to Generate Solutions on Five Principal Themes

The third call, which was issued as part of the 1004 Programme, aimed to establish high-tech platforms through which research infrastructures of higher education institutions could transfer to the private sector the products and technologies they had developed in collaboration with private sector R&D/design centers and public R&D units.

In line with the 2053 net zero emission target and green development policy, which is an important step towards green transformation and green growth by becoming a party to the Paris Agreement and announcing the zero emission target, Turkey carries out studies to produce groundbreaking R&D and innovation-based solutions in 5 main themes: "Climate Change, Environment and Biodiversity," "Clean and Circular Economy," and “Clean, Accessible and Safe Energy Supply”, “Green and Sustainable Agriculture”, “Sustainable Smart Transportation”

"We See the Benefits of a Research University in Every Field," said Rector Çomaklı.

Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı declared at the onset of the evaluation meeting that they perceive the merits of the Research University designation across all domains. Furthermore, he cited the ability to submit applications for pertinent calls as an accomplishment of this undertaking.

Rector Çomaklı underscored the significance of submitting an application to the 1004 program and engaging in discussions with faculty deans and members who will contribute to the project writing processes. He stated that Turkey's technological advancements remain remarkable under the leadership of the National Technology Move, and that all stakeholders—the university, the general public, and industry—play pivotal roles in this endeavor. According to him, they continue to collaborate with stakeholders from the academy and the public in pursuit of the same objective.

Çomaklı stated that this program was initiated in the high technology sectors that are crucial for Turkey. He added, "We place significant emphasis on this appeal for the creation of domestic goods equipped with technological platforms to contend on global markets, as opposed to importing high-tech products." Because we desire the specialization and transformation of our research infrastructures into centers of excellence. In conclusion, "I hope that the call will be beneficial and I hope that the results will be successful," according to him.

Prof. Dr. Çadırcı: "The Call Concentrates on R&D and Innovation Matters"

In her informational presentation as part of the program call, Project Development and Coordination Office Coordinator Prof. Dr. Elif Çadırcı declared that the funds allocated for this call will be utilized to develop high technology platforms. She further stated that the United States places significant emphasis on R&D and innovation matters that are crucial for addressing and adapting to climate change, as well as complying with the European Green Deal in pursuit of a net-zero emission target by 2053.

Research institutions are eligible to submit applications for the call if their infrastructures meet the requirements outlined in Law No. 6550. Additionally, they should have high-technology platforms established in collaboration with institutes and centers affiliated with TÜBİTAK. Çadırcı stated, "The high-technology platform must comprise a minimum of two R&D/Design centers (as defined by Law No. 5746) and two research infrastructures or public R&D units, excluding the managing organization, for the research programs to be offered." The provision of support for research programs developed during the call's scope will occur in a single phase. The provision of financial support for the research programs may reach a maximum of 150 million TL. 1004-Center of Excellence Support Program "High Technology Platforms – Green Transformation Call" commenced on February 26, 2024, in alignment with the aforementioned objectives. "The deadline for completing the online application and e-signature process has been determined as 17 May 2024 at 23:59."
