2023 PATENT AWARD CEREMONY HELD AT ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY

Atatürk University, which honors accomplished academic endeavors, has added a new ceremony to its repertoire. On July 15, the faculty members who were eligible to receive awards in relation to the patent applications submitted in 2023 gathered at the National Will Hall with their accompanied group members.

Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, the rector of Atatürk University, presented certificates of accomplishment to faculty members who submitted applications for a cumulative of 140 patents during the academic year 2023. Of these patents, 97 were classified as national and 43 as international.

Coordination of Intellectual Property Rights Became the Forerunner of Success

The award ceremony commenced with Prof. Dr. Nejdet Gültepe, coordinator of intellectual property rights, delivering an informative presentation. According to Gültepe, Atatürk University, which has the highest number of patent applications in Eastern Anatolia, was positioned fifth in the evaluation of national applications and third in international applications. He further emphasized that Erzurum benefited not only the university but also itself when the university's extensive influence was assessed.

Gültepe stated that structural changes occurred with the establishment of the Intellectual Property Rights Coordinator. Previously, patent applications were submitted via BAP projects; however, they are now submitted via the record created within the coordination. Rector Çomaklı, the forerunner of this innovation in the field of patents, and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşe Bayrakçeken Yurtcan were cited in support of this change. He extended gratitude to all the scholars present.

"We Have Attained a Competence Level with Universities Around the World"

Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı began his address by extending his sincere felicitations to all attendees on the occasion of the recent Ramadan Feast. Subsequently, he declared that a significant assembly had been convened today. Rector Çomaklı declared that a monthly academic incentive ceremony was routinely organized. During this occasion, he convened an award ceremony where accomplished academics were recognized. In this regard, he was ecstatic to meet the academic staff members who were deserving of awards in accordance with the patent applications they submitted in 2023, as well as the teams with which they collaborated to accomplish their tasks.

At the ceremony, Rector Çomaklı informed the academic community of additional happy news: Atatürk University, which had previously received accreditation from the Higher Education Quality Board (YOKAK), had been re-accredited. Rector Çomaklı asserted that Atatürk University, through its consistent accreditation of programs and designation as a Research University, has once again demonstrated its significance for the nation's higher education. The university has attained a level of accreditation that enables it to contend with universities worldwide, and disclosed that it is the preeminent institution in this regard.

Rector Çomaklı stated, "We Entrusted Experts with the Management of Every Aspect."

Rector Çomaklı conveyed his sincere conviction that the university will attain further accomplishments while acknowledging that the institution has endured a challenging period. He extended his gratitude to all university members who provided support throughout this endeavor. Rector Çomaklı asserted that patents exemplify scientific research and that this prevailing culture has yielded significant benefits for the university: "Once this objective has been accomplished, our present focus is on the commercialization of patents." By utilizing the Intellectual Property Rights Coordinator appointed as part of the New Generation University Design and Transformation Project, we have delegated the patent matter to experts. The diligent effort of our departments and coordinators guarantees that any innovations that transpire within the university yield enduring outcomes. The achievements that result from these endeavors serve as the returns on our investments. He concluded, "I would like to reiterate my sincere pleasure in being in the company of the university members on this splendid day, and I extend my congratulations to all our academics who submitted patent applications and their respective teams who made contributions to them."
