COMMEMORATION OF D. MEHMET DOĞAN AT ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY
D. Mehmet Doğan, the Honorary President and Founder of the Turkish Writers Union (TYB), was honored with a program hosted by Atatürk University in honor of his passing in August. The Kemal Bıyıkoğlu Hall of the Cultural Center was the site of the event, which was attended by the following individuals: Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, the Rector of Atatürk University, Mustafa Berk Çelik, Deputy Governor of Erzurum, Mayor of the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, Mehmet Sekmen, the Rector of Ankara Social Sciences University and TYB General President, Prof. Dr. Musa Kazım Arıcan, Erzurum Provincial Director of National Education Yakup Yıldız, TYB branch presidents, union members, and numerous students.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu delivered the opening remark of the "A Cultural Pioneer Who Leavened Anatolia: D. Mehmet Doğan" Panel. He emphasized the contributions of D. Mehmet Doğan to Turkish cultural and intellectual life. According to Hacımüftüoğlu, Doğan was not only a writer but also a significant cultural figure who influenced society through his ideas and works. He stated, "The cultural struggle that D. Mehmet Doğan fought throughout his life will continue to inspire us." His concepts and works will continue to serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.
Mayor Sekmen: "D. Mehmet Doğan is a genuine role model for the youth."
Mayor Mehmet Sekmen of the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality also stated in his speech that D. Mehmet Doğan is a true role model for the youth due to his dedication to moral values, love of the country, and struggle. Sekmen underscored Doğan's spiritual connection to Independence Poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, asserting that "Doğan is one of the few figures who, like Mehmet Akif, influenced our society through his works and contributed to our moral and cultural richness."
Sekmen also asserted that Doğan was an intellectual who generated tangible works, stating, "His Turkish Dictionary addressed a significant gap in the preservation and perpetuation of our language." By introducing his works to our youth, we can enhance the realms of thought of individuals such as D. Mehmet Doğan.
The program continued with presentations by the panelists.
In the panel moderated by TYB Erzurum Branch President Mehmet Gözütok, Ankara Social Sciences University Rector and TYB General President Prof. Dr. Musa Kazım Arıcan delivered presentations titled "A Philosopher's Life," "A Cultural Alperen," and "The Noble Guardian of Words," respectively, following the opening speeches.
The panelists emphasized that Doğan was the founder of the Turkish Writers' Union, conducted extensive cultural research, and signed significant works such as Westernization Betrayal and the Great Turkish Dictionary. According to the speakers, Doğan's ideas will be preserved through these events, as he led a life characterized by love for his country, culture, and homeland.
The program concluded with the participants' inquiries being addressed and commemorative photographs being taken.
