AWARENESS RAISED ON GYNECOLOGICAL CANCERS AT ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY
A range of events were held at Atatürk University on the occasion of September 20, World Gynecological Cancers Awareness Day, which was announced in 2019 to attract the attention of women and society all over the world.
Within the scope of the activities carried out under the leadership of Atatürk University Research Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Department, the university campus was decorated with purple, the symbol of awareness day. From the entrance of the university, trees were decorated with purple bows, and banners indicating the meaning and importance of the day were hung across the campus. An awareness event was organized by the faculty members in the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of the Research Hospital.
Stating that September 20 was declared as World Gynecological Cancers Awareness Day in order to draw attention to women's cancers and increase their awareness, Research Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Department Head Prof. Dr. Yakup Kumtepe noted that the aim is to prevent gynecological female cancers and to emphasize early diagnosis. Noting that an average of 25 thousand women in Turkey are fighting against women's cancer, Kumtepe said that they aim to prolong the healthy life span of women, increase their quality of life and raise their level of consciousness.
"Early diagnosis in cancer also increases the success of treatment. So take time for your own health once a year. Because going to a gynecological examination once a year can change a lot in your life. We want to say to women, take care of your health, do not neglect yourself. There is not enough awareness in the society about gynecological cancers. We want to raise awareness of both women and society through the activities we carry out. We wish our events to raise awareness on the society, and I would like to take tis occasion to thank Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı.” Kumtepe added.
The awareness event held at the hospital ended with the participants sharing their good intentions and wishes regarding the meaning and importance of the day.
