Atatürk University has acquired the infrastructure system that can make all the necessary analyses to determine the basic characteristic of the food.
Physical Analysis, Chemical Analysis, Instrumental Analysis and Microbiology Laboratories have been transformed to have high features by equipping with modern technology and they have begun accreditation studies according to international standards and thus the reports and certificates will be accepted at international level. In addition, the physical and technological infrastructures of Meat Products Processing, Cereal and Dairy Products Research Laboratories and Milling Technology Laboratory, Bakery Products Research Laboratory and Fruit and Vegetable Products Research Laboratories were renewed and activated.
Pointing out that Atatürk University, which is an educational institution equipped with contemporary, theoretical and practical knowledge, with its experienced staff and technological background, is successful in every field it serves, the Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı said that the steps taken thanks to the New Generation University Design and Transform Project were the basis for these achievements.
The Rector Çomaklı: “We are Using Every Means Available”
Rector Çomaklı stated that Ataturk University had a structure that competes with world universities, and that they had come a long way in all the works initiated in accordance with the vision of the New Council of Higher Education.
Stating that universities were carrying out studies for their research and development and contribution to society as well as their education and training missions Çomaklı said: “We brought 29 units to our university since the day we took office. The vast majority of these are research centers. We are using every means available to contribute the research-development process which is the basis of scientific studies. One of the fields that we invest in this direction is our Department of Food Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture. With our newly founded and restructured laboratories, we enable our students to practice the theoretical knowledge they have learned in the course, as well as provide our academicians with the opportunity for academic studies and research.”
Advanced Analysis Techniques Can be Applied
Mentioning that in this department ,they have staff who design projects that enable contribution to the region and the country, raising a healthy generations, aim at developing new techniques and methods of processing food with food analysis as well as developing themselves and making scientific researches, Çomaklı made this evalutions:
“Food safety draws attention as one of the most current issues in our country as in the world. For this reason, ensuring food safety is of great importance in terms of raising healthy generations. Accordingly, there is a great need for equipped food analysis laboratories for identification of food-related physical, chemical, and biological hazards, as well as tricks such as imitation and fraud in foods. Thanks to the food analysis laboratories we have established within the Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Food Engineering for this need, we have become equipped with advanced analysis techniques. For this need, thanks to the food analysis laboratories we have established within the Department of Food Engineering Faculty of Agriculture, we have become equipped with advanced analysis techniques.”
“We Have The Most Comprehensive Food Analysis Laboratory Of Eastern Anatolia Region”
Emphasizing that these laboratories are designed in terms of tools and equipment that can serve both scientific research and R&D activities, Prof. Dr. Çomaklı added : “On the other hand, with accreditation, which is a reliable indicator of technical competence, we have started accreditation studies according to TS EN ISO / IEC 17025: 2017 International Standard in order to make laboratories gain both national and international prestige. In this way, it will be ensured that the reports and certificates given by our laboratories are accepted internationally. In addition, Eastern Anatolia Region will have comprehensive food analysis laboratories for the first time. In these days in which the food safety is gaining more importance, these laboratories where R&D activities can be carried out with the scientific studies for producing healthy and safe food with advanced laboratory analysis techniques will serve both the food industry and researchers.
Pointing out that food, which is one of the indispensable elements of healthy life, should have certain features in order to provide the benefit expected from it, Çomaklı said that the basic food analysis and methods that would be applied in terms of food safety and control carried out in the Food Technology Laboratory were of great importance.
