EDUCATION SEMINAR ON SUBSTANCE ADDICTION FROM ATATURK UNIVERSITY…

Narkogençlik, an educational seminar organised by the Ataturk University Faculty of Sports Sciences, was attended by the Provincial Police Department and educators from Yeşilay. The purpose of the seminar was to increase student awareness of substance use and addiction.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gökhan Yazıcı, who delivered the opening speech at the program, stated that they convened to increase public awareness of drug addiction, a social issue that has been a pervasive issue in recent years and has had a profound impact on the lives of young people, obscuring their futures. Prof. Dr. Yazıcı expressed his enthusiasm for conducting research that will increase awareness among our students in this field and foster a sense of accountability towards our partner institutions, the Provincial Police Department and Yeşilay. I trust that this educational seminar, which will serve such a significant purpose, will be advantageous.

"Do not assert that nothing occurs only once; numerous events occur only once."

At the program, the students were informed of the personal and social consequences of narcotics by the Provincial Police Department and Yeşilay educators, who provided examples. Initially, the educators who educated the students on the topic of drugs and drug addiction communicated the following: "What is the reason for individuals to begin using drugs?" It may be the result of psychological melancholy, jealousy, curiosity, and the suppressive words and attitudes of the users. Their solution is to receive psychological and physical support in treatment centres, and research also indicates that engaging in sports is significant. In what ways does it cause injury to our bodies? The initial consequence of drug use is the degradation of one's appearance, the rapid and unhealthy loss of weight, and the subsequent exposure of the body to a variety of adverse effects, including bruising under the eyes, open wounds, tooth decay, sweating, palpitations, and more. We categorise narcotic substances into three primary categories: those that induce hallucinations, those that stimulate the central nervous system, and those that inhibit the central nervous system.

"We are unaware that drugs are being glorified."

Instructors who stated that drugs are being glorified through movies, music, series, and social platforms cited the following as the reason: "Because war is no longer fought with guns, cannons, and rifles, they want to corrupt you and the generation you will raise." Individuals who reside in close proximity to an individual who abuses drugs are also susceptible to drug use. The impact of this crime is extensive. Furthermore, terrorist organisations derive their revenue from the sale of narcotics. The fight against substance crimes is crucial for our society and for you, our youth, for a variety of reasons, including the aforementioned. Individuals who engage in substance use are penalised with imprisonment for a period of 2 to 5 years. This situation becomes an obstacle in every aspect of their lives, even if they do not receive a prison sentence, as they are unable to work in state institutions for the remainder of their lives. The Ministry of Interior has devised an application known as "uyuma" that enables users to report narcotics. They concluded their statement by stating that personal information sharing is not requested for reporting.

Education seminar; Dean, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gökhan Yazıcı concluded the event by awarding certificates of appreciation to the instructors.
