Atatürk University

Scientists at Atatürk University developed the internationally patented First National Medicine for health problems such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and Depression.

Under the supervision of Prof .Dr.Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu,  from Atatürk University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Pharmacology , the drug  produced by the team consisting of faculty members of the Faculty of Science and Veterinary  has the distinction of being  the new synthesis, ‘’First National Drug’’ , that holds international patent rights in our country.

Announcing the produced National Drug to public with a press conference Rector Prof.Dr. Ömer Çomaklı  ;

As our  President underlined, not every searcher  can find , but those who find  are only the searchers.Our duty is to search for the best, , the most beautiful, the  most fortunate, and find if we have in our destiny  and offer it to the service of humanity.I would like to express my gratitude to my colleagues for their efforts, and success. ”Rector Çomaklı explained members of the press  the development process of the national drug step by step as follows:

As you know, our state has included the target of increasing the competitiveness in the global market especially in pharmaceutical sector and increasing our country to the higher position in the value chain in order to increase the export of high value added products to the annual program of Presidency of 2020.

To achieve this goal, our university is trying to fulfill all its duties.
Active substance synthesis, which is one of the first stages of the pharmaceutical production process, is carried out abroad and again there are some disruptions in the procurement of foreign chemicals, thus delays in production.Due to such disadvantages, designing and producing new synthetic original drugs which are unknown, not discovered, not produced before, has become the most important target in our country.
In this context, in 2013, under the supervision of Professor Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu from the Department of Medical Pharmacology, interdisciplinary studies were initiated  with the contributions of faculty members from various departments.
International Patents were Received from Japan and USA

By our research team, Turkey's first non-herbal -derived original molecule was discovered ,with pre-clinical studies  efficacy of drug was proven, in  2019 from Japan  and  in this month from  the United States of America   international patents were taken.

As a result of numerous studies and experiments carried out by the faculty members  of Medicine,  Science and Veterinary Faculty, it was found that the resulting product has a protective effect on brain cells with high glutamate neurotransmitters.In other words, animal experiments have shown that the product reduces the values to ideal levels in health problems such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and depression.

Our product now has the honor of being the new synthesis, first national drug, which holds International Patent Rights in our country.
After this stage, the clinical stages will be completed and the medicine will be put into service for humanity.Our expectation is the completion of clinical drug research by taking steps that can be solved by some short ways although it is seen as financially difficult, the launch of the drug to the world market as soon as possible and the benefit of our country and humanity from this drug.

With its 62 years  long history , and being  ranked  as the first in the scientific world rankings in the last 5-year average based on the pharmacology field,Atatürk University  has demonstrated its leadership in the national drug issue.I thank our university members  Prof.Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu,Prof.Dr.Orhan Ateş,Prof.Dr.Nurullah Saraçoğlu, Assistant  Prof.Dr. Ali Taghizade who strived and succeeded in this direction.

The press release of the Rector Çomaklı ended with the family photo of the university administration and faculty members.
