The "2022 Barrier-Free University Awards" organized by YÖK found their owners. The works carried out by Atatürk University within the framework of the services, provided for disabled students in space and education, and the disabled life, were awarded by YÖK with the Flag of Accessibility in Space (Orange Flag), the Flag of Accessibility in Education (Green Flag) and the Program Medal.

The winners of the 2022 Barrier-Free University Awards, organized to encourage the creation of a barrier-free ecosystem in universities, were announced by the President of YÖK, Erol Özvar at a ceremony held in Ankara. As a result of the evaluation of 1074 applications from 114 universities by 34 panelists, 84 universities were awarded a total of 384 flags.

Atatürk University continues to contribute to the life of the disabled with the slogan "Moving Forward in the Service of Life"

As a result of the flag application made following the commission works carried out by vice rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sözbilir and Barrier-Free University Unit Coordinator Prof. Dr. Fatma Güdücü Tüfekci, under the leadership of rector Prof. Dr.  Ömer Çomaklı,   Faculties of Dentistry, Fine Arts, Communication, Applied Sciences and Agriculture, Horasan Vocational School, Oltu Vocational School and School of Foreign Languages were awarded Accessibility in Space Award (Orange Flag), Faculty of Communication Accessibility in Education Award (Green Flag), and Faculty of Theology Undergraduate Theology Completion Program (İLİTAM) the Program Medal in the categories of visual, hearing and physical disabilities.

Rector Çomaklı: “We have an environmentally friendly and barrier-free campus”

Making an assessment on the subject, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı reminded that Atatürk University Central Campus, Faculties of Architecture and Design and Literature and Technopolis Building have the Space Accessibility Award (Orange Flag), adding: “As Atatürk University, we continue our studies with a student-centered and quality-oriented education and research approach on an environmentally friendly and barrier-free campus. At our university, we continue to work on the access of people with disabilities to places, educational opportunities and socio-cultural activities without any barrier. We are implementing our projects that allow our private students and staff to easily access their classrooms or study areas. In this context, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our Barrier-Free University Unit, and those having a share in Accessibility in Space and Education, and the Program Medal.”
