ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY'S 65TH ACADEMIC YEAR HAS STARTED WITH GREAT ENTHUSIASM
Atatürk University's 2022-2023 Campus Welcome Orientation Program and 65th Anniversary Celebration Ceremony started with various activities.
"Welcome to Campus Orientation Program and 65th Anniversary Program" prepared for new students enrolling in faculties and colleges in order to facilitate the adaptation of students to academic studies and campus life, to help them get to know the structure and opportunities of the university, and to accelerate the adaptation process, will be held on September 27-28-29, 2022. Celebration Ceremony started with the cortege march.
In the cortege march, which was organized at the Kartal Gate, the entrance of the university, and started with the band; Ataturk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı and his administration, academics and thousands of students marched to the Atatürk Youth and Science Monument. Here, after the presentation of a wreath to the monument by Rector Çomaklı representing the new era, the bar team consisting of university members performed Erzurum folk dances.
The program, which continues on July 15, in the Hall of National Will, in order to ensure that newly registered students transition smoothly from secondary education to higher education programs and to be informed in detail about life, education, transportation, nutrition, accommodation, health, sports, etc. on campus; In addition to Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, Governor Okay Memiş, Deputy Chairman of the MHP and Erzurum MP Prof. Dr. Kamil Aydın, Deputy Mayor of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Ömer Düzgün, Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor Hüseyin Tuncel, Provincial Police Chief Levent Tuncer, MHP Erzurum Provincial Chairman Naim Karataş, BBP Provincial President Ahmet Eşref Yılmaz and vice-rectors, faculty deans, heads of departments, research center directors and students attended.
The 6th University to Start Education in Turkey
Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı said that he greeted his guests with the pride of being the rector of a deep-rooted educational institution with a history of 65 years.
Rector Çomaklı stated that Atatürk University, which started education as the 6th university of our country in a secondary school building with 2 faculties and 135 students 65 years ago, has become a world university that has registered its success as a "Research University" with 600 thousand graduates 65 years later. Rector Çomaklı stated that although the university was officially established in 1957, its spirit dates back much earlier, when the founder of our Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, expressed the project of establishing a university in the east in his parliamentary speech in 1937, the idea of establishing Atatürk University dates back 85 years ago.
“There is no university or sector in our country so that Atatürk University is not fed from its source”
Rector Çomaklı stated that Atatürk University, with its infrastructure and human potential, is known as the “University that Founds a University” with its significant contributions to higher education throughout Turkey. Rector Çomaklı said: “The title of the university that founded a university shows that Atatürk University has brought not only the city where it was founded but also many universities in our country with the same mission and visionary approach to education life. There is no university or sector in our country that Atatürk University is not fed from its source. Members and graduates of our university serve our country in almost every field with the education they have received and the equipment they have gained. Undoubtedly, this is one of the indicators of the greatness of Atatürk University. As a debt of appreciation, there are names that should be remembered for their support in the establishment and development of Atatürk University in Erzurum. I wish mercy to Erzurum Governor Cemal Göktan, Prof. Dr. Rıfkı Salim Burçak, President Celal Bayar and our Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, and express my gratitude. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the people of Erzurum, who welcomed and sincerely supported the establishment of a University in Erzurum with great enthusiasm, donated their lands unconditionally, and displayed the best examples of self-sacrifice for our country and our university at all times.
Atatürk University is a university that has blended education with sports, art, science, culture and social life, and has shared its pioneering structure with everyone who needs it in every aspect of life. Atatürk University has supported its academic success with its publications, scientific studies, different projects ranging from the sky to the ground, innovative policies, support for different fields, and investments in the fields of health, sports and art.

In order to make effective contributions to the vision plans of our state extending to 2023 and even 2071, we have been in constant consultation with society and all stakeholders on behalf of the development of our university, we have realized joint projects, and we will continue to establish such relations from now on. All units of our university, especially our faculties, are working hard to use their knowledge and potential in the most effective way and to serve our nation and country. Since 2016, when I was appointed as the 16th Rector of Atatürk University by the will of our President, we have carried out important studies aiming at a new generation research university that will lead the future goals of our country and take its rightful place in the first places in our country and in the world.
In this period, significant progress has been made in implementing practices that will carry our University to the points it deserves and increase the corporate reputation and prestige of Atatürk University by benefiting from the knowledge and experience of our entire community. Atatürk University, which has made significant contributions to the development level of the city, region and country with the responsibility of being a research university, has always been the pride of our country, has confirmed itself with its own goals, and has proven its success with universal norms, and has crowned labor with science.

Dear young people, do not forget that it is a privilege to be a part of the Atatürk University family. You will experience and see that it is a privilege to be an Atatürk University student during your education and after you graduate. Your instructors will equip you with the right technical information within a wide range of possibilities according to the conditions of our country. You will study at a university with higher education opportunities, where brotherhood, and democracy culture on a settled campus that can meet all social and cultural needs. I believe that you will contribute to many beauties in the future as young people who are honest, moral, controlled, determined, patient and persistent, who know their national and moral values, and protect and glorify them. Don't forget! Your achievements will be the key to the doors that will be opened to your friends who will come after you, and the reason for the opportunities that will be offered. “The aim of local governments is to produce joint projects with educational institutions”
Noting that Atatürk University, which offers an educational life and an intellectual environment full of opportunities with its distinguished academic staff, has realized its vision of being a university that can respond to the requirements of the century in which he lived in Turkey and in the world, together with its students and academics, Erzurum Metropolitan Deputy Mayor Ömer Duzgun said that it is one of the duties of local governments to develop joint projects with educational institutions that incorporate innovations and contribute to the development of the city.
He wished success to the students of Atatürk University in their education and training lives, who lead at a global level with proper teaching, research and community service activities, present their products for the benefit of humanity, respect ethical values, and have independent and critical thinking. He wished the 2022-2023 academic year to be beneficial.

Stating that he witnessed 35 years of Atatürk University's 65-year history with his student years, MHP Deputy Chairman and Erzurum MP Prof. Dr. Kamil Aydın said that he had very precious moments at the university he was once a member of.
Stating that Atatürk University is not only a leading university in its region, Prof. Dr. Aydın also stated that it is a university that has become a brand with the knowledge, skills, techniques, patents and equipment it has produced with the academics it has trained both in Turkey and in the world, and said: I sincerely congratulate you. I also wish mercy to those who passed away. May their place be heaven. Erzurum is such a beautiful place and people who contribute to the agenda of Turkey and the world have been raised in this place. Hopefully, this process will continue. We carry the honor and pride of being an Atatürk University student, clearly and unequivocally, wherever we are and under all circumstances. We express this openly in international meetings as well as under the umbrella of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Because being a student at Atatürk University is a privilege.”
I want you to know that you live in a city where the foundations of the Republic were laid. Addressing the students with the words "You live in a city where the foundations of the Republic were laid," the Governor, Okay Memiş also stated that, in the Erzurum congress, it was declared to the whole world that the mandate and protection could not be accepted under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in the last periods of the Ottoman Empire. Governor Okay Memiş noted that Atatürk University is a very valuable university because it is the first university established in Anatolia after İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir.
“We are in the service of our students, with all our means”
Governor Memiş advised the students to get to know the city in addition to their academic education and noted that Erzurum has been the most important province in the east of Anatolia from past to present. Governor Okay Memiş: “Erzurum has an attractive importance with its historical and natural beauties and unique facilities especially for skiing. We are ready to provide free ski equipment and ski lessons to our students at our governor's facility on Mount Palandöken. As Erzurum, we are one of the lucky ones that do not have dormitory problems among 81 provinces. In this context, I would like to thank all our managers who supported us. We are at your students' service with all our means so that you can lead a peaceful and healthy life and receive a quality education. After the fire on the roof of the central cafeteria last week, we heard a few days later that our Rector had renovated the cafeteria. We also congratulate and thank them for their efforts and efforts.”
After the speeches, the ceremony ended with a music concert given by the faculty members of Atatürk University Turkish Music State Conservatory and a cake cutting for the 65th anniversary.
As part of the event, Atatürk University Health, Culture and Sports Department provided food and dessert to the students.
Rector Çomaklı visited the stands arranged by the Rectorate in front of the Prof Fuat Sezgin Library for students to get information on various subjects. Rector Çomaklı invited all students to the activities.
The 2022-2023 “Welcome to Campus Orientation Programme”, which includes various conferences, panels, concerts and events, will continue for three days.
