ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY PROVIDES EDUCATION TO SCIENCE TEACHERS

Atatürk University, which closely monitors the scientific, technological, social and cultural developments in the world and realizes the necessary integrations immediately, also implements the changes in daily life with the projects it prepares.

Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Seda Okumuş's project titled "Developing Educational Digital Game Supported Argumentation Activities in Science Education and Examining the Effects of Developed Activities on Reasoning, Values Education, Critical Thinking Skills and Academic Achievement" was realized.

With the project, 20 science teachers were given in-service training with the cooperation of Erzurum Provincial Directorate of National Education. At Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education, 20 teachers are given theoretical and practical training on argumentation, educational digital games and values education, which are recommended to be used in science lessons.

In the project, where educational digital games are also taught so that they can appeal to the Z generation, In addition to Assoc. Dr.Seda Okumuş, there are 2 consultants, 10 researchers and 13 scholars.

Providing information about the project, Assoc. Dr. Okumuş said that in the first year of the activities, in-service trainings will be held in Erzurum, Bursa, Trabzon and Hatay in the project they developed as part of the TÜBİTAK 1001 Project. Stating that the project will be implemented in the classroom in the second year, Okumuş stated that applications will be made at the 5th, 6th and 7th grade levels in the provinces where the project will be carried out.

Stating that the developed argumentation activities and educational digital games will be implemented for one year, Okumuş said: “At the end of the year, we will look at the effects of this on students' academic success, critical thinking skills and reasoning processes, as well as their contribution to the development of values education. The main purpose of using games is to appeal to the Z generation. We wanted to make an educational game by actually putting education into the game. Our Rector, who has always supported us in our project, where we will choose the teachers who will practice next year among the teachers we train here. Congratulating Assoc. Dr.  Okumuş and his team, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı said that they are trying to provide more opportunities by developing incentives to increase the number of such projects at the university and policies that support faculty members.

Pof. Dr. Çomaklı: “As a university, we carry out our studies with the aim of being a research-oriented university that produces universally qualified scientific knowledge, carries out R&D activities, produces technology, transforms it into patents and offers the science it produces for the benefit of society. We aim to raise our university to higher levels with the new projects and studies developed.”
