ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY'S INFORMATION MEETING ON COVID-19 VACCINE STUDIES WAS HELD

At Atatürk University, which did not have any studies and infrastructure related to the vaccine until the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, The work in the Vaccine Production and Antigen Preparation Coordinator, which was established in line with the directives of rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, has reached an advanced level.

In this context, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı and his management were briefed on the Atatürk University Covid-19 vaccine.

At the meeting, on the preparation of protein, Prof. Dr. Hasan Özdemir was giving information, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu made a presentation with a slide.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Harun Budak, Assoc. Dr. Ufuk Oktay, Assoc. Dr. Serkan Yildirim, Dr. Instructor Member Yağmur Ünvar, Dr. Instructor Demet Çelebi The vaccine development team, consisting of its member and assistant lecturers, gave detailed information about the Covid-19 vaccine.

An application will be made to the Ministry of Health for the Human Phases of the Antigen

From the first day, Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Veterinary Faculty faculty members worked in coordination with Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Selahattin Çelebi In the Covid-19 vaccine project submitted to the Presidency of Turkish Health Institutes (TUSEB) the initial stage of antigen (protein) detection and purification was successfully completed, and immunity and antibody formation was carried out by giving the antigen to animals.

Stating that the animal experiments, physio-pathological and in vitro agglutinations with one protein of the study started with two different proteins were completed, the faculty members said that the other protein study was about to be completed. The team members also stated that they would apply to the Ministry of Health for the human phases of the antigen, whose animal experiments were completed and whose protection against the epidemic was observed for close to one year.

Thanking the Ministry of Health and TUSEB in the person of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for their support, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı said that it is pleasing that the process continues rapidly according to the schedule of the vaccine project.

Rector Çomaklı said that the point reached after a grueling process is promising: “We have come to these days thanks to the efforts of our faculty members in Faculty of Science, Molecular Biology and Chemistry Departments, Faculty of Medicine, Medical Microbiology Pharmacology, Infectious Diseases and Pediatrics, as well as Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine departments. We are proud that a team that has never attempted to develop a vaccine so far has worked with such dedication and achieved positive results. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the development of our vaccine and putting it at the service of humanity in the future.” he spoke.

The meeting ended with the discussion of work packages to be realized in the future.
