DOUBLE SUCCESS FROM COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT STUDENTS...
Students of the Department of Computer Engineering at Atatürk University once more showed outstanding performance in the 2242 University Students Research Project Competitions run under TEKNOFEST 2024. The students made their universities double proud and obtained Turkey ranking in two separate categories.
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Scientific and Technological Research Council (BİDEB) invited a total of 90 projects in 9 categories that passed the preliminary evaluation stage to the final of the University Students Research Project Competitions, which took place under the scope of TEKNOFEST, the biggest Aviation, Space and Technology Festival, and held for the 12th time in 2024.
Under the direction of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Dal, a faculty member of the Department of Computer Engineering at Atatürk University, three of the four projects developed by the students for undergraduate graduation had been among the ninety projects in issue. 27 proposals from 9 disciplines were given First, Second and Third Prizes following the last evaluations of the competition hosted online on July 11, 2024.
Two of the three projects developed by Atatürk University Department of Computer Engineering, which made it to the finals, were appreciated by the jury and resulted in Turkey ranking.
Two Projects in Field of Animal Husbandry and Sports Security Show Fantastic Success
Ranked first in Turkey in the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship category, the project "Artificial Intelligence Supported Smart Swimmer Wristband that Detects Drowning Danger," invited to the final competition and developed by Yusuf Yardımcı and Cengiz Güngör, ranked Yusuf Yardımcı and Cengiz Güngör's creative endeavour has great potential to contribute significantly to water sports safety.
Third in the Food and Agriculture category was another great project, "A New Generation System for Detecting Lameness in Sheep by Pressure Mapping". Designed by Fatma çelik and Almira Yared Karadeniz, this technique distinguishes itself in trying to solve lameness, a major concern in the cattle industry.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Dal, the adviser of the projects, said that the success once more attested to the calibre of the instruction provided in Atatürk University Computer Engineering Department. "The fact that we have continuously ranked in Turkey in this competition since 2019 shows the continuity of the success of our students and our department," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dal says. Declaring that it makes him proud to bring two of the 27 medals decided upon following the last interviews to Erzurum and Atatürk University, Dal thanked Head of the Department of Computer Engineering Dr. Ahmet Coşkunçay, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Recep Sadeler.
The teams will get their medals and the ranked projects will be displayed within TEKNOFEST 2024. Congratulating both project teams, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı praised the teams that helped to acknowledge the technological and innovative efforts of Atatürk University across the nation.
