FARMERS' TRAINING HAS BEGUN AT THE PLANT PRODUCTION APPLICATION AND RESEARCH CENTER.
Training sessions for local farmers and technical staff of the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture have started at the Crop Production Application and Research Center (BUAM) Agricultural Sciences Training Center as part of the 2022 Training Programs thanks to the collaboration of Atatürk University, the Eastern Anatolia Project Regional Development Administration (DAP), and Erzurum Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.
Within the scope of the training that began on November 22, 2022 and lasted for three days; Accompanied by improving the knowledge and technical level of women farmers, who are the building blocks of the agricultural sector, playing an active role as entrepreneurs and producers in agriculture, as well as raising awareness about their personal development and social security; "Personal Care and Hygiene - Violence Against Women - Vegetable Growing - Compost Production and Management"; Accompanied by improving the knowledge and technical level of women farmers
During his speech at the trainings, BUAM Director Professor Dr. Adem Aksoy said that discrimination against women is common in many societies, and as a result, women are pushed to the back of society. Additionally, women are prevented from being the ones who produce things, and they are also prevented from taking a position that controls and manages resources. He stated that the contributions that women made to the community's well-being were on par with those made by men.
Aksoy, who stated that gender differentiation increasingly works against women, particularly in developing nations, brought up the role and function of women in development and continued as follows: The participation of women in social, cultural, and economic activities alongside men in all spheres of life will ensure the sustainability of development efforts. "I'd like to express my gratitude to Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Director Osman Akar, as well as the districts of Yakutiye, Palandoken, and Aziziye, particularly our Rector Prof. Ömer Çomaklı.
At a ceremony after the training, Osman Akar, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, the District Agriculture Managers of Yakutiye, Palandoken, and Aziziye, and Prof. Dr. Adem Aksoy, the Director of BUAM, gave certificates to the successful trainees. The garden set consisting of a hoe, rake, pickaxe, and shovel, as well as compost, were also presented as gifts.
The training program, of which the first part was completed with female farmers, will continue with male farmers.
