Atatürk University signed a cooperation protocol with Bonab University, one of the top universities in neighboring Iran, as part of its ongoing efforts toward internationalization, one of the most significant outcomes of the New Generation University Design and Transformation Project, which was created and carried out in accordance with the vision of YÖK.
At the rectorate office, Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı welcomed the delegation made up of Bonab University Rector Prof. Dr. Moctaba Abbasian and members of his management team, Dr. Naser Ghasemian, Dr. Hadi Rezghi, and Dr. Moctaba Fathizade. Together with his colleague Prof. Dr. Abbasian, he signed an inter-institutional protocol.
While the protocol governing the collaboration between Atatürk University and Bonab University was followed, the protocol governing the collaboration of research centers and the conduct of scientific research at DAYTAM was signed by the rectors of both universities.
The parties also agreed to foster cooperative university student exchanges for undergraduates, postdoctoral researchers, and students. Rector Çomaklı commented on the signed protocol by saying that Atatürk University has advanced significantly in terms of visibility and recognition in the scientific community, particularly with the studies it has conducted in recent years, and this has provided a crucial step toward becoming a global university.
Rector Çomaklı emphasized that such educational agreements will strengthen the friendship between societies and noted that Türkiye and Iran are two neighbors with a long history in the area. He said that their universities want to strengthen these long-standing historical ties.
Following the signing of the partnership agreement, the delegation paid visits to the Engineering and Science Faculties, Biodiversity Application and Research Center, and Eastern Anatolia Yüksel Technology Application and Research Center (DAYTAM), gathering details about the work done from the unit managers.
