ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY - THE CHAMPION IN CURLING

Atatürk University continues its achievements through its scientific and academic studies with trophies and medals won in sports branches.

Atatürk University has made its mark on the Turkish Intercollegiate Curling Championship organized by the Turkish University Sports Federation, held in Erzurum between 21-23 February 2020.

Championship held at Erzurum City Directorate of Youth and Sports Curling Hall received great attention.

At the end of the very contentious matches, the teams that entered the top three became clear. Atatürk University wind blew in universities League (UNILIG) Curling Competitions, where a total of 12 teams from 6 universities, including 6 women and 6 men, were struggling.

Champion in Both Men and Women

The women's and men's curling teams, coached by Dr. Fatih Ağduman, one of the faculty members of Atatürk University's Faculty of Sports Sciences, won the championship. Atatürk University was ranked first in the men's Curling Championship in the universities League of Turkey, while Erzurum Technical University was ranked second and Istanbul Technical University was ranked third.

The address of the women's championship was still unchanged. Atatürk University Women's Curling team placed first on the podium, while Erzurum Technical University took second place and Kocaeli University took third place.

The Champions ' Trophies were given by Fuat Taşkesenligil, the Provincial Director of Youth and Sports of Erzurum. Taşkesenligil thanked all the teams that participated in the Championship and competed gentlemanly, and he said: “we have completed the Intercollegiate Turkish Curling Championship that we hosted without any problems and without any problems. We were very happy with the intense interest. I congratulate the champion teams and wish all athletes success.”

Koç Sports Fest Made Its Mark on Winter Sports

Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomakli said that scientific, cultural and sports fields of the name of a university, stating that they are happy to be the first in UNILİG for a long time.

Çomaklı emphasized that Atatürk University dominated many branches in winter sports.

In addition to the achievements in curling, Çomaklı reminded that Atatürk University was the champion of Turkey for men and the third in Turkey for women at the Koc Sports Fest winter sports Snow Volleyball Championship in Turkey and  they also achieved first place in the Snowboarding Women's class.

Rector Ömer Çomakli underlined that Erzurum is very convenient for many sports branches and pointed out that the events organized in this context offer important contributions to the promotion of the city. He said: " Atatürk University has been leading many sports branches for many years. In addition to the academic achievements, we can be very proud of these and similar achievements. I would like to thank all our academics and athletes who have contributed to these achievements.”
