NATURE TO TABLE SCIENCE PROJECT HOSTED OVER 20 THOUSAND VISITORS
The European Researchers' Night event of the project titled 'Science from Nature to your Table', carried out by Atatürk University Project Development and Coordination Office and accepted within the scope of Horizon Europe Projects, ended.
After the work package where scientists and students came together, the event, which was carried out with the participation of students and the public from all the schools visited, was the first to carry out the main work package between September 30 and October 1.
In the project that took place in Atatürk University New Reading Hall, primary, secondary and high school students participated in science and art activities; they learned many subjects such as experiments, workshops, theaters and performances in a hands-on way. In the project, which was celebrated in Erzurum simultaneously with 25 countries of Europe, which is one of the largest scientific events in our country, the process of plant and animal origin foods until they come to the table was presented in a fair-festival format with experiments and scientific activities. In the science festival, which was met with great interest, the students participated in scientific activities practically by making experiments and observations with great enthusiasm and curiosity.
61 Scientists and 172 Volunteers took part in the Festival
Within the scope of the Nature to Table Science Project, a Science Festival was held in Erzurum at the same time as the European Union countries. By visiting 130 schools with scientists, the first steps were taken to encourage young people to research, to break the prejudice against researchers, and to recognize researchers as "one of us".
During the Science Festival, students, teachers and all Erzurum residents had the opportunity to experiment with scientists and ask them what they were curious about. In the festival, which hosted more than 20 thousand visitors, 58 activities were held by 61 scientists and 172 volunteers. The events revealed the three main food chains based on sea, plant and animal products, from the beginning to the kitchen stage, by the researchers, and at the last point, the journey of the products that came to the table with the kitchen workshops, step by step, with the participation of young people and students, with demonstrations, experiments and workshops.
Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, participated in the second day of the science festival with his grandson and took part in all activities practically, stated that the event, which had an intense participation, was very important in terms of bringing children together with science and thanked everyone who contributed, especially the project team.
