SCHOOL VISITS STARTED AS PART OF THE NATURE TO TABLE SCIENCE PROJECT
School visits started within the scope of the project "Science from Nature to your Table" carried out by the Atatürk University Project Development and Coordination Office.
During the school visits, it was aimed to raise awareness of science and scientists by coming together with scientists and students. Ataturk University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşe Bayrakçeken Yurtcan and Project Development and Coordination Office Coordinator Assoc. Dr.Serkan Yıldırım participated in the visit.
In-school visits, where scientists share their experiences, students have the opportunity to ask questions personally, scientists and students come together; The project activities, which were created with the aim of encouraging young people to the research profession, breaking the prejudice against researchers and introducing researchers as "one of us", include hands-on experiments, scientific demonstrations and discussion sessions.
While Atatürk University scientists visited kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and high schools and met with students, the project was greeted with great enthusiasm and curiosity by the students, while the scientists interact with students from all levels. The fact that students and scientists who graduated from their own schools had the chance to come together stands out as another intriguing aspect of the event.
In this context, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Bayrakçeken Yurtcan talked about the scientific studies she conducted with the students at Erzurum Anatolian High School, from which she graduated, and shared her academic career steps and experiences. Bayrakçeken, who answered the questions of the students sincerely, thanked Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı. While the event was hosted by School Principal Hikmet Polat, Deputy Principals Battal Kılıç and Elif Aslan with the intense participation of students, the second work package of the project will be held at the European Scientists' Night on September 23-24, 2022 with the participation of students and the public from all the schools visited.
