AN EVENT WAS ORGANIZED IN MEMORY OF EFRASIYAP GEMALMAZ

A significant program was organised by the Turkish Language Association (TDK) and hosted by Atatürk University in honour of Prof. Dr. Efrasiyap Gemalmaz, who was born in Erzurum and made significant contributions to the field of Turkish language.

Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi, Atatürk University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Yılmaz, TDK President Prof. Dr. Osman Mert, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Zafer Aynalı, faculty deans, and numerous academics, students, and citizens attended the program held in the Atatürk University Cultural Centre Prof. Dr. Kemal Bıyıkoğlu Hall.

In his inaugural address, Atatürk University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Yılmaz highlighted Efrasiyap Gemalmaz's contributions to the Turkish language and the Turkish culture, referring to him as the "Legendary Professor of Atatürk University." Prof. Dr. Yılmaz stated that Gemalmaz's courses in the Turkish Language and Literature Department from 1964-2001 made a significant contribution to the education of numerous students, and that his students have continued to honour his legacy.

"The Event Will Facilitate the Transmission of Gemalmaz's Legacy to Future Generations"

Gemalmaz's contributions to the scientific community were emphasised by TDK President Prof. Dr. Osman Mert. President Mert stated, "Prof. Dr. Efrasiyap Gemalmaz is a rare scientist who has transformed his research in the fields of linguistics and dialectology into a school, which he has passed on to his students." The Turkish language's richness and profundity have been disclosed by his research. He also mentioned that the Institute of Turkish Studies' journal was published and numerous international congresses, symposiums, and forums were conducted during Gemalmaz's tenure as Director. Osman Mert expressed his satisfaction that such a significant event was being organised in Erzurum and at Gemalmaz's residence. He also conveyed his gratitude to all individuals, particularly Atatürk University President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, for their contributions.

At the conclusion of the event, Gemalmaz addressed the emotions of his students. The students elucidated the impact of Gemalmaz's educational approach and demeanour on them, emphasising his enthusiasm for the Turkish language and literature.

The program concluded with the screening of a documentary film that explored the life and work of Efrasiyap Gemalmaz. This documentary illuminated Gemalmaz's scientific career, contributions, and influence on the Turkish language. Efrasiyap Gemalmaz continued to work in order to continue his contributions to the Turkish Language and the Turkish Language Association, despite his retirement in 2001. Gemalmaz's permanent contributions and enduring traces in the Turkish language were once again underscored by this event, which guaranteed that his legacy would be passed down to future generations.
