THE VICTORY OF ÇANAKKALE ON 18 MARCH WAS CELEBRATED WITH GREAT ENTHUSIASM IN ERZURUM.

The 18 March Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs' Memorial Day was commemorated with various events held in Erzurum. The ceremonies held for the martyrs were attended by a large number of people.


The celebrations began with an official ceremony held at the Karskapı Martyrs' Cemetery. As part of the ceremony, a wreath was laid at the Atatürk Monument and a moment of silence was observed. This was followed by prayers for the martyrs and the recitation of poems expressing the meaning and importance of the day. The programme continued with the laying of carnations on the martyrs' graves.


The afternoon part of the commemoration programme was hosted by Atatürk University. The event, organised by students from Erzurum Şehit Hasan Yılmaz Kız Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesi, took place in the 15 July Milli İrade Hall and was attended by a large number of people. The programme was attended by Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi, Erzurum Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Sekmen, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, Erzurum Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, as well as military, administrative, judicial and bureaucratic officials of the city and citizens.


The programme began with the Turkish National Anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran. It continued with theatrical performances, musical performances and poetry recitals by the students. During the emotional event, Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi presented state medals to the relatives of the martyrs and veterans. The programme ended with participants offering prayers for the martyrs.


On the 110th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory, the sacred martyrs were once again honoured with respect through the commemorative programmes held in Erzurum.
