HAPPY ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF ERZURUM FROM ENEMY OCCUPATION AND THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM
On the anniversary of the liberation of Erzurum from enemy occupation and the adoption of the national anthem, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, the Rector of Atatürk University, issued a message. The following phrases were employed by Rector Hacımüftüoğlu in his message:
❝We are currently recognizing and celebrating one of the most significant days in our nation's history. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey adopted our national anthem, the symbol of our independence, on March 12, which is also the anniversary of the liberation of Erzurum from enemy occupation.
Erzurum is a city that has been cherished for its patriotism, fighting character, and devotion to independence throughout history. The legacy of our martyrs, who gave their lives without hesitation for the sake of independence and the future, is Erzurum, which was liberated from enemy occupation with great sacrifice and heroism on March 12, 1918. The people of Erzurum have been one of the most powerful sources of inspiration for our nation on the path to independence, as evidenced by their determination and resistance during this fortunate struggle.
Today also marks the anniversary of the National Anthem's adoption, which was composed by our national poet, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, and is a powerful representation of our nation's aspiration for independence. The National Anthem is not merely a poem; it is a testament to the nation's devotion to independence, faith, and character. The prayer "May God not allow this nation to compose another national anthem" holds a profound significance for all of us, as Mehmet Akif has stated.
I recall the heroic martyrs and veterans who entrusted our homeland to us with mercy, gratitude, and appreciation on this significant day. I commemorate the anniversary of Erzurum's liberation from enemy occupation and the adoption of our National Anthem, and I extend my warmest regards to our beloved nation as it continues to experience many tranquil days of unity and solidarity.❞
