Rector of Atatürk University Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı published a congratulatory message on the 102nd anniversary of Erzurum's liberation from the enemy invasion. Rector Çomaklı stated the following in his message:
March 12; It is one of the days when a big country bands together with the motto of “Freedom or Death” under the relentless siege of the enemy.
Erzurum was a city ruined in a deep war, a clear plan of destruction and a dazzling sharing that covered all sides of a war victim empire.
It is the anniversary of the struggle of the East to get rid of the captivity of the enemy at the key point of the road leading to shaking off and recovery and resurrection at the end of a war that was believed to have been lost.
We proudly celebrate the 102nd anniversary of Erzurum's freedom and the battle of a nation which was won thanks to the great Commander Kazım Karabekir who proudly recorded his name in history, Nene Hatun who reared up with her chopper in her hand and her love of homeland, many women, men and intelligent children. We also respectfully and pityingly commemorate our martyrs who knew their homeland more precious than their lives.
