INLAND FISHERIES RESEARCH AND APPLICATION UNIT CONTINUES FISH PRODUCTION

Within the framework of Atatürk University's student-centered education mission, the Faculty of Aquaculture, which aims to provide students with access to the most advanced research university ecosystem, continues to support its students with its research infrastructure and public and private sector partnerships.

The Inland Fish Research and Application Unit of the Faculty of Fisheries at Atatürk University produces 10 tonnes of trout and 2 million fry annually. Rainbow Trout (Oncorhyncus mykiss), Golden Trout (Golden trout), Red Spotted Brook Trout (Salmo trutta fario), and Spring Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) are the fish species produced. The fish produced are sold live and filleted, and the city's demand for fresh fish is satisfied. The application unit not only satisfies the demand for fish, but also provides fry, eggs, and technical guidance to support the regional aquaculture development.

In addition to production activities, the Inland Fish Research and Application Unit provides opportunities for practical application to students at the Faculty of Fisheries, provides researchers with living material, and conducts globally significant research.

"We Raise Students Who Protect Aquaculture Resources"

"We strive to provide our students with the best education and training in both our application units and classrooms with robust infrastructure." Dean of the Aquaculture Faculty, Professor Dr. Telat Yanık says: "As part of the 7 + 1 (70 working days of on-the-job training) education and training plan, which was initiated during the previous academic year, we produce male fish required for female fish production alongside our students during the vocational education process and provide them to breeders who request them. Students who complete a 7+1 education and training plan are prepared for the profession as aquaculture engineers with the experience they have gained, integrated with the environment, protecting aquaculture resources, ensuring their sustainable use, and continually updating their knowledge. In addition, our Inland Fisheries Research and Application Unit serves as the foundation for this education."

Stating that they have adopted a management approach integrated with the society and shaped their work accordingly, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı stated that the Faculty of Aquaculture also serves in accordance with its mission to contribute to society and said the following: "Our Faculty of Aquaculture, which has been carrying out its education and training activities in accordance with the requirements in the relevant scientific discipline. Our faculty has attracted many engineers working in the public and private sectors of aquaculture to our country, and it continues to demonstrate its success on national and international platforms through its quality and self-renewing education program, student-centered approach, and success. In this context, our Inland Fisheries Research and Application Unit, which operates with its own resources, provides our academic and administrative employees as well as our citizens with the fish it cultivates. Within the scope of our New Generation University Design and Transformation Project, we continue to implement our work in accordance with the mission of contributing to society that we have articulated.
