THE PROJECT TITLED "CLIMATE CHANGE AND RESILIENT CITIES" IS UNDERWAY

The project titled "Green Infrastructure Design for Climate Change and Resilient Cities" is currently underway, initiated on July 31, and being hosted by the Department of Landscape Architecture at Atatürk University, Faculty of Architecture and Design. The project is progressing with a rigorous schedule.

The project, which was approved during the first term of the year 2023, falls under the 2237-A Scientific Education Activities Support Program administered by the TÜBITAK Scientist Support Programs Presidency (BIDEB). In this project, a total of 18 undergraduate and graduate students were provided with a comprehensive education on green infrastructure design, focusing on climate change and resilient cities. The education was conducted over a period of six days and was delivered by esteemed academicians from various universities in Türkiye. Associate Professor Mustafa Artar fulfills the role of project coordinator, overseeing the participation of numerous faculty members from other universities who serve as trainers. The training program receives sponsorship from the Landscape Architecture Education and Science Association (PEMDER), in addition to the hosting Department of Landscape Architecture.

The organizing committee aims to enhance the knowledge and awareness of undergraduate and graduate students regarding landscape design and its role in developing climate-resilient cities. This educational program involves Atatürk University, Karadeniz Technical University, Akdeniz University, and Bartın University's Department of Landscape Architecture, which serves as the coordinating institution. The program focuses on imparting information about various green infrastructure elements and their significance in urban planning for climate change adaptation.

The proposed program entails a comprehensive training course spanning 48 hours over a period of 6 days. It aims to provide theoretical and practical instruction to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Landscape Architecture programs across our nation. The primary objective of this program is to foster the development of design projects centered around climate change adaptation and propose solutions within four distinct themes. These projects will be carried out on the premises of Atatürk University, serving as an integral part of the students' educational experience. The groups will present the projects they have generated at the conclusion of the training program, and the training program will culminate in a certificate ceremony scheduled for Saturday, August 6th.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Artar, the Project Coordinator, the program demonstrated high productivity. Artar further expressed his belief that the outcomes achieved via the successful completion of the educational program will make valuable contributions to the respective field. He expressed gratitude towards the entire academic community of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, with special recognition given to Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı for his role in facilitating this initiative that prioritizes the needs and interests of students.
