TEACHING THE NATURE OF CHEMISTRY WORKSHOPBR>OCCURRING AT THE ATATÜRK UNIVERSITY
Atatürk University is the host institution of the Nature of Chemistry Teaching Workshop, which is a collaborative effort between the provincial directorate of national education of Erzurum, Boğazici University, and Atatürk University.
With the participation of academics and 35 chemistry teachers employed in Erzurum, the workshop, which is supported by TÜBİTAK ARDEB and organized as part of the "Development, Implementation, and Evaluation of the Nature of Science Teaching Module Based on the Family Resemblance Approach" project, continues from 26 February to 1 March.
Through the workshop's activities, which were facilitated by Prof. Dr. Suat Çelik of the Department of Chemistry Education at Atatürk University Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education, chemistry instructors share their perspectives in order to devise instructional approaches that are compatible with chemistry courses and to ensure that these activities are implemented in lessons with maximum efficacy.
The initial phase of the project, which is structured into three distinct stages, entails an analysis of the current state and requirements of chemistry education through interviews with thirty-five chemistry instructors employed in Erzurum. The objective of the second phase is to coordinate a workshop that will have a program developed in accordance with the findings of this analysis. Subsequently, in the third phase, preparations will be made for the instructional activities that will be experimentally tested in the designated schools.
Program coordinator Prof. Dr. Suat Çelik stated that the workshop's participation of academics from multiple universities would significantly contribute to the advancement of chemistry education and development. The workshop was greatly influenced by the vision of education, research, and societal contribution that is central to the New Generation Design and Transformation Project at Atatürk University.
Çelik expressed gratitude to Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı for organizing and coordinating efforts to address challenges and promote chemistry education for five days. He also offered assistance throughout the workshop and stated that the program's objective was to distribute the findings.
