Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, the rector of Atatürk University, issued a message commemorating the anniversary of the Malazgirt Victory on August 26, 1071. In his message, Çomaklı made the following statements:

Manzikert is a valuable land that provides access to Anatolia. It is the key of the great Turkish nation that transports the ideal of Turkishness and the flag of Islam from Central Asia to Mesopotamia, and from there to the rest of the globe.

The significance and value of this magnificent victory have not diminished over the centuries since it occurred. Today, as on that day, we celebrate with the same honorable spirit, faith, reverence for ancient values, and awareness of our homeland. We pray that the souls of our cherished ancestors and martyrs who bestowed this honor upon us may rest in peace and in paradise.
