An awareness conference was organised by Atatürk University as part of the "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" events, which are conducted annually in October to raise awareness of breast cancer, which effects 2.3 million women worldwide. The conference, which took place in the Prof. Dr. Kemal Bıyıkoğlu Hall of the Cultural Centre, provided crucial information regarding the screening, diagnosis, and prevention of breast cancer.

The significance of early detection and breast cancer was underscored.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Reyhan Keleş, Rector Advisor Prof. Dr. Erol Akpınar, and numerous academic personnel and students attended the program. The inaugural speech of the conference, moderated by Prof. Dr. Müfide Nuran Akçay, Head of the General Surgery Department at Atatürk University Research Hospital, underscored the fact that breast cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer among women worldwide. Prof. Dr. Akçay emphasised the significance of regular examinations and personal awareness, and stated that breast cancer is a treatable disease if diagnosed early.

Experts Delivered Informative Presentations

During the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdem Karadeniz and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Kartal provided the participants with comprehensive information regarding the symptoms, risk factors, and protective measures of breast cancer while speaking. The surgical and medical treatment methods employed in breast cancer were elucidated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdem Karadeniz. Karadeniz stated that the battle against cancer has been significantly advanced by the development of novel treatment methods. He also noted that the process is positively impacted by the awareness of individuals in the fight against this disease. Associate Professor Dr. Kartal emphasised the significance of routine mammography examinations and check-ups, stating that the risk of breast cancer is elevated by genetic predisposition, obesity, and unhealthy living conditions.

The Influence of Awareness Month...

At the end of the conference, Prof. Dr. Müfide Nuran Akçay asserted that Breast Cancer Awareness Month serves as a critical platform for raising public awareness of this disease. Akçay asserted that these events foster a greater understanding of one's own body and the identification of early symptoms. He also stated that Atatürk University will consistently provide support for awareness-raising activities.
